Re: Here's why the decreasing fertility rate in the US is a concern
Basically, if you think we need to outbreed the religious, you’re probably going down a dark path. Not necessarily outbreeding the religious, but secular people need to have more kids so they won't get replaced by religious people in the future. According to an article I read, a few decades ago the...

Re: Pissing on "Frenchy"'s Grave?; Or, a Case Study in Mopologetic Selfishness
I searched for a few minutes to see if Dan ever mentioned submitting the name of a relative for baptism. I didn’t find any instances of it.
It seems when he attends the temple he just gets a random name from the machine.

Re: Here's why the decreasing fertility rate in the US is a concern
You have to be pretty negative to believe you can’t coexist with religious people as an atheist. Take abortion, for example. I do believe it’s an area where religious opinions are being forced on non-religious citizens. But the solution is not to get rid of religion, it’s to make the religious more ...

Re: FAIR Partners with the Valiant Conference: Has a New Mopologetic Organization Emerged?
Wow. Nearly the entire conference is defensive apologetics, rather than positive apologetics. Multiple variations of "how to bury your head in the sand." There's nothing left to do but nitpick at the mounting evidence against the church and its brethren, I guess.

Re: Pissing on "Frenchy"'s Grave?; Or, a Case Study in Mopologetic Selfishness
Excellent point Marcus!! Dan posted around a dozen or so examples of wedding vows with " 'til death do us part" in them. He was trying to make the argument that non-Mormon Christians believe that marriage won't exist in heaven. What about your standard Christian obituary? What do Christians say abou...

Re: Pissing on "Frenchy"'s Grave?; Or, a Case Study in Mopologetic Selfishness
It’s a slow day, and I’m in the mood: By the way, the angle of attack on this issue has changed now. (I knew that it would. The conclusion always remains the same -- i.e., that I'm a depraved buffoon -- but the means used to establish that conclusion are infinitely varied. Previously, my failure to ...

Re: Face of a 75,000-year-old Neanderthal woman revealed by scientists
DCP has pointed out many times that he believes in an old earth, so it’s possible to fit old earth into Mormonism. But the temple ceremony makes it abundantly clear that the garden of Eden was a real story that happened 6,000 years or so ago. So these 75,000 year old humans were just animals without...

Re: Pissing on "Frenchy"'s Grave?; Or, a Case Study in Mopologetic Selfishness
Daniel has an incredibly long new post about this on his blog. After reading, all I can think about is how baffled the Nazarene would have been if someone had explained all of this to him on the shores of Galilee. ... And Jesus spoke to the multitudes, saying: " My beloved brethren, harken to MySQL...

Daniel has an incredibly long new post about this on his blog. After reading, all I can think about is how baffled the Nazarene would have been if someone had explained all of this to him on the shores of Galilee. For Frenchy, I did create a record using the name and vitals from Find-a-Grave. I ofte...

Re: Numbers...
My inclination is toward Marcus’ way of thinking. If someone really had some sort of supernatural connection with numbers, then they’d probably try to use it to win the lottery. Encryption, lotteries, probability, quantum mechanics… all of these things are based around numbers and when you look at i...
