I see it as a mixed bag; the LDS Church can be praised and criticized for its stance on coffee.
I do as well. The LDS church would love coffee and tea to be exposed someday as just as evil as smoking tobacco, but that seems incredibly unlikely.

Re: Seeing Things Differently -DanP the apologist excuse.

It would be a comforting feeling (wouldn’t it?) to feel as though this life is it and you are not accountable to any god for your actions and thoughts? The ultimate wishful thinking is believing you'll survive your own death. And not only that, but that you picked the correct religion (out of thous...

Hitler may have a better chance in heaven than ex-Mormon apostates

I have indicated here on several prior occasions that I’m inclined to a quasi-universalism. I believe in a Heavenly Father who loves his children with a love so intense and powerful and pure that I doubt that any mortal can really comprehend it, let alone be capable of it. Moreover, I take very ser...

More information is ALWAYS better. Even if it's bigoted, misleading, twisted, or false information. Can't ever have too much false information. By the way, more bees is always better. More potassium is always better. Potassium is an essential mineral and electrolyte that plays a critical role in va...

Re: Seeing Things Differently -DanP the apologist excuse.

LDS Chatbot definition of Free Will: Free will is a fundamental concept in Latter-day Saint theology, as well as in broader Christian thought. It refers to the God-given ability and privilege that individuals have to choose for themselves between different courses of action. This freedom to choose ...

Re: The Many-Transfigurations theory

I've learned more from this thread than I had known before about how the LDS movement survived Smith's death and rallied behind Brigham Young. My guess would be that Smith never made real succession plans because he was expecting to live on for many more years as sole Prophet. He might have recogni...

More information is indeed better, MG. Let's compare your church's A.I. powered chatbot, to the standard chatGPT bot: The question of the historicity of the Book of Mormon involves both faith-based perspectives and academic inquiry. Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believe ...

Re: Seeing Things Differently -DanP the apologist excuse.

Using A.I. for debating presents several challenges: Bias: A.I. systems can inherit biases from their training data, leading to unfair or skewed arguments. Lack of Understanding: A.I. may lack a deep understanding of nuanced topics, leading to oversimplification or misrepresentation of arguments. Et...

Re: Russell McGregor: Online Mopologist Extraordinaire

I don’t think Daniel has once addressed anything I’ve written. I don’t spend a lot of time focusing on his trademark self deprecation, superfluous hyperbole, or personal travel anecdotes. I discuss his ideas and often ridicule them from the perspective of a non-Mormon who doesn’t have a preexisting ...

Re: RFM on Kamp in Court

Wow. The judge ruled in Dehlin's favor, citing Jenn Kamp's blatant abuse of the legal system. The case is over, and all that is left is for the court to determine how much money Jenn (and her husband) owe John Dehlin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpkWhC3XZ3c This is surely what would have happen...
