Re: Hamula released from 1st Quorum of 70, no longer a membe

That leak is for what Henry B. Eyering is paid as a member of the first presidency. Seventies are undoubtedly paid a smaller figure. Click on the memo leak. I think it was specifically addressed to a 70. I'm assuming the higher-ups get even more. The Church PR guy has said the pay is uniform , for ...

Re: Has Steven Smoot taken the first step toward apostasy?

Yep. I remember no R-rated movies coming from the pulpit during General Conference. I agree with Smoot that these are stupid rules, but he is trying to pass the blame to the members for creating this culture of stupid rules. Mormon culture is shaped from the top down. I agree with this concept gene...

Re: Has Steven Smoot taken the first step toward apostasy?

So, what do you think? Is Elder Smoot giving the saints valuable advice that will prevent them from negatively judging each other's worthiness, or is he opening Pandora's box wherein every member has a license to label any aspect of Mormonism that he or she doesn't like as a "Shibboleth" ...

Re: The Conceptual Penis as a Social Construct

I had bank fraud happen to me once. It was a small amount of money I lost compared to my overall finances, and I got it all back pretty quickly, including the over-draft protection fees that were technically my fault. I wondered why this happened. And then I realized that had it not happened, then ...

Re: Falling out between Dehlin and Kate Kelly?

A history of Mormonism from a class perspective has yet to be written and probably won't be in the current "Mormon Studies" climate, but there is certainly something there. One way of looking at the Church is as the function of an aristocracy that was birthed by Joseph Smith. Polygamy is ...

For Consig: Wrong is still Right

Inspired by Consiglieri's thread about Holland's awful "Wrong Roads" story, I made this.

Re: I can no longer remain silent...

Lying for the Lord was the first and last doctrine of Joseph Smith. It is what guides the church today. The 13th article of faith (that I memorized in Primary) begins with “We believe in being honest, true”. One of the Ten Commandments includes “Thou shalt not bear false witness” (and lds.org adds:...

The Allegory of the Laboratory

If a picture is worth 1000 words, here is a new 1000-word LDS allegory. It's a bit like the non-fictional prophet Zenos' coherent and not-at-all-rambling Allegory of the Olive Vineyard from the Book of Mormon, but this one is written for our time and place, rather than the nineteenth century America...
