Re: Could Astrology be Reel?
I have always wondered what is so special about the day of a person’s birth in astrology. If anything, I would think they would try to base the ideas of cosmic influence on the day you were conceived. Obviously that would be nearly impossible to figure out in most cases, but it makes a BIT more sens...

Re: Evidence ror Jesus, Paul Bunyan and Babe, the Blue Ox
The story of Jesus is obviously important as a historical political influence but that was not what I was thinking of. I was considering how it invites people to discover what it means and can mean to be human. I think I see where you are coming from. No doubt the humanitarian teachings attributed ...

Re: Evidence ror Jesus, Paul Bunyan and Babe, the Blue Ox
I think that if the miracles resurrection and divinity are all fiction the story of Jesus would remain one of the, or perhaps the most important human story ever told. Why? Because of the huge number of adherents and the profound influence the story has had on them and therefore on the world’s hist...

I had thought their truly contemptible “Proclamation” painted them firmly into that corner years ago.

Re: Evidence ror Jesus, Paul Bunyan and Babe, the Blue Ox
I guess I fail to see how it even matters at all whether a Jewish preacher around whom a messiah mythology was built over the years actually existed, since I put the likelihood of the important parts of the story having happened (miracles, resurrection, godhood, etc.) at virtually zero.

Re: New radiocarbon dated horses to Book of Mormon
In any area where horses and humans have existed together (as PG mentions as well), someone would have to come up with a really good explanation of how those humans would ever have allowed such an incredibly useful creature to go extinct.
Just not believable in the slightest.

Ah, Added Upon . My experience with the book was similar to the anecdotes MG posted. I found my mother’s copy and read it as a kid and was quite moved by it. It was like the feeling after watching Saturday’s Warrior a decade or so later. They were both designed to make people feel good about being M...

Re: Why did you look?
The ‘revelation’ that reversed the racist priesthood/temple policy. Seeing the policy suddenly change under public pressure, having bought into the previous explanations from GAs (as well as their insistence that it could never change until the second coming), was disillusioning. It seemed that they...

Re: Icontropy and Book of Abraham Facsimiles: Shulem Has Met His Match!
In some ways it's like saying someone put Dr Who's Horton hears a Who story in someone's grave who has reinterpreted the story but decided not to change anything to the story, but just add some new text at the end of DR Who's story that explains the new interpretations of his story. Interesting tho...

Re: Book of Mormon Transliteration
The ‘Moroni promise’ is certainly not very reliable. Only a small percentage of people who have tried it receive a positive confirmation that is sufficiently convincing (especially without being led by a confident believer such as a parent or missionary). And then only a tiny percentage of those peo...
