Re: LDS Church accused of embezzling members estate
Accused by a pro se plaintiff who honestly sounds a little unhinged. This likely will go nowhere, and not just because suing the church and the Lord's law firm in Utah is quixotic. https://s3.amazonaws.com/jnswire/jns-media/53/ce/11403324/eliasonvlds.pdf Here's the statement of the case from the com...

Re: Coronavirus halts missionary work in Hong Kong
Why did the Prophet send 113 missionaries to a place where he knew a dangerous virus would be breaking out. Certainly, the omniscient Mormon God, in communicating to the Prophet where to send each missionary, would have warned his Prophet about the outbreak, no?

Re: President Newsroom changes his Twitter handle...
I'm old enough to remember when this was canonized scripture: D&C 107: 1-4 1 There are, in the church, two priesthoods, namely, the Melchizedek and Aaronic, including the Levitical Priesthood. 2 Why the first is called the Melchizedek Priesthood is because Melchizedek was such a great high pries...

Re: Callister claims critics have flip-flopped on Book Of Mo
Let me see if I can play this apologetic game with other controversial matters. "Critics first said crop circles were made one way, but then they hypothesized a different method for their creation; this flip-flop proves that crop circles were made by aliens." "Skeptics first hypothesi...

So, you know, maybe consider the source.

John Pratt Says He Has Found the Plates of Mormon
LDS author John Pratt (of "Uranus Testifies of Christ" fame) claims he has found the plates of Mormon in South America. Is it just me or does it seem like we are experiencing something of a blossoming of wacky LDS offshoots lately? Is Rusty Donuts losing his grip on the membership? https:/...

Re: A quick random sample of theological anachronisms in the
I'm guessing the apologetic response will be something along the lines of this: The gospel as understood by latter-day saints was given to Adam, but then multiple apostasies occurred so these concepts were lost to the Jews of biblical times, but were preserved by Lehi/Nephi/Jacob. So that explains a...

Re: The Church Went To Great Lengths To Hide The 100 Billion
I'm old enough to remember when a Mormon was a major-party presidential nominee and anyone who dared raise the issue of whether the LDS church might exert undue influence on a Mormon president was quickly berated into silence as a "religious bigot" for daring to even consider such a notion...

Re: John, release your finances
I logged in about half an hour ago to see the discussion of the Washington Post article and was dilatory in my checking in on this thread. May historians record my shame and humiliation at failing to check this thread first.

Re: Washington Post: Mormon Church has misled members on fin
Damage control Monday’s Washington Post story about the finances of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has already gotten a lot of attention. We think it deserves more. Not because the topic of church holdings is somehow new — it’s not (Time magazine once ran a cover story titled, “Mor...
