Nelson couldn't do it. He was filmed demonstrating how the rock in the hat worked but somewhere in his subterranean brain logic won the war. You can see it in his reflexes and facial expression as he abruptly put the hat down. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/media/video/2020-05-0290-the-book-of...

Re: Thomas Stuart Ferguson (May 21, 1915 – March 16, 1983)

In 1947 he wrote his first book, Cumorah—Where? arguing strongly for the Central American setting of the Book of Mormon." I often wonder why the church members just don't do a mail-in campaign and ask the current lead "prophet, seer and revelator" to just put the stinkin' peep-stone in the hat alre...

There are some signs that membership is ticking back up. It may be wishful thinking to believe that people as a whole will continue getting smarter and rejecting ridiculous stories like Mormonism. It’s just as possible that people fall into misinformation more now that internet propaganda is everyw...

Re: Face of a 75,000-year-old Neanderthal woman revealed by scientists

DCP has pointed out many times that he believes in an old earth, so it’s possible to fit old earth into Mormonism. But the temple ceremony makes it abundantly clear that the garden of Eden was a real story that happened 6,000 years or so ago. So these 75,000 year old humans were just animals withou...

Re: Lars Nielsen's "How the Book of Mormon Came to Pass"

All of this is similar to the Mosiah priority. Smith had no idea where the lost pages were so he became very nervous. Same thing now. Church leaders are vigilant for source materials that can create doubt and will go through grat lengths to hide them. Not destroy but hide.

Re: Lars Nielsen's "How the Book of Mormon Came to Pass"

It is a wild ride of a book. One flimsy speculation added to another. Still, loads of fun. Rivendale, perhaps you could clarify your comment a bit for those of us who have not followed this particular theory. What papers do you mean being hidden, by whom, and when? What previous attempts of what fi...

Re: Even the very elect - Church photoshops ExMormon actor from temple movie

Usually the church goes out of its way to give the middle finger to people who request anything. Somehow pixels on a screen loses divine power when the person becomes an apostate. Maybe it is associated with entanglement. Once the person leaves the church the pixels automatically assume the state of...

Re: Lars Nielsen's "How the Book of Mormon Came to Pass"

I just finished listening to Mormonism live with Nelson. He claims it is the most parsimonious theory. His statistical opionion is that Joseph only had about 5% authorship with Rigdon and Spalding carrying the majority? That seems tenuous especially with the scant evidence that Rigdon recieved the m...
