Re: Lars Nielsen's "How the Book of Mormon Came to Pass"

All of this is similar to the Mosiah priority. Smith had no idea where the lost pages were so he became very nervous. Same thing now. Church leaders are vigilant for source materials that can create doubt and will go through grat lengths to hide them. Not destroy but hide.

Re: Lars Nielsen's "How the Book of Mormon Came to Pass"

It is a wild ride of a book. One flimsy speculation added to another. Still, loads of fun. Rivendale, perhaps you could clarify your comment a bit for those of us who have not followed this particular theory. What papers do you mean being hidden, by whom, and when? What previous attempts of what fi...

Re: Even the very elect - Church photoshops ExMormon actor from temple movie

Usually the church goes out of its way to give the middle finger to people who request anything. Somehow pixels on a screen loses divine power when the person becomes an apostate. Maybe it is associated with entanglement. Once the person leaves the church the pixels automatically assume the state of...

Re: Lars Nielsen's "How the Book of Mormon Came to Pass"

I just finished listening to Mormonism live with Nelson. He claims it is the most parsimonious theory. His statistical opionion is that Joseph only had about 5% authorship with Rigdon and Spalding carrying the majority? That seems tenuous especially with the scant evidence that Rigdon recieved the m...

Re: Pissing on "Frenchy"'s Grave?; Or, a Case Study in Mopologetic Selfishness

Did he follow this advice from his dad? My father liked to lecture me: “When you are listening to somebody trying to teach you, imagine yourself trying to teach them something. What will you say? Will you know what you’re talking about? Will you have any real conviction? Will you tell dumb stories o...

People do temple work for non-relatives all the time. From Adolf Hitler to Zsa Zsa Gabor. Tangeta must be a relative.

Re: Temple sealings as a solution in search of a problem

And don't forget the massive suffering machine that goes on perpetually. Mormon God’s plan is so flawed that 99.99% of people ignore Mormonism. And John Larsen describes it well. If you are exalted you are just going to keep cranking out hundreds of billions of spirits. And they are going to suffer....

Re: Temple sealings as a solution in search of a problem

A gem from the Hitchen's file adds more to the list of self generated sanctions. Hitchens claimed that believing in God was equivalent to life in an eternal totalitarian state: ‘It is the desire that there be an unalterable, unchallengeable, tyrannical authority who can convict you of thought crime ...
