Do calvinists believe in free will?

Just because something appears to possess free will doesn't necessarily mean it actually does. Do you agree?
We are free to to do we want but are not free to choose what we want.
Speak for yourself! 😉 (I know you are)

Re: Seeing Things Differently -DanP the apologist excuse.

I understand where you’re coming from. I’ve read some of that research. But the way I see it, you’re describing the precursors to ‘remembering’, not the underlying nature of free will. Free will is, by in large, a separate matter in some respects. Regards, MG If you think of all the scenarios where...

Re: Seeing Things Differently -DanP the apologist excuse.

The movies my pop into my head and I can make a list of them. That’s memory. If I’m asked to name the top five movies from my list as being my favorites, that’s free will. I'm talking about something different, please follow with my example and don't change it. The scenario is not "choose 5 movies ...

Re: Seeing Things Differently -DanP the apologist excuse.

Res Ipsa,
Sometime, maybe on a new thread, I would be interested in your thoughts in regards to my inquiries concerning free will.

Re: Seeing Things Differently -DanP the apologist excuse.

Maybe we’ll make more progress next time. Sharing of ideas and reasons for positions is progress in understanding various ways of approaching the world and realizing that even though we’re in the same room we are going to see things differently. I appreciate the fact that you have a particular worl...

Re: Seeing Things Differently -DanP the apologist excuse.

The answer to the first question is dependent on the answer to the second and third. I don’t see the second question as having a definition that I can determine from where I sit. Why? Because if God does exist I think it would be a safe assumption to think that this God is in and through all things...

Re: Lars Nielsen's "How the Book of Mormon Came to Pass"

Hope you’re doing well, Shades. Thanks for all you do to keep the lights on around here. 🙂 You're welcome. Obvious to you. Others in the room may see it differently. Would you see it differently if it was any polygamy-starter other than Joseph Smith, Jr.? I suppose I would look at it case by case. ...

Re: Seeing Things Differently -DanP the apologist excuse.

I’m going to answer this with a little help from A.I.: So within the realm of ‘beliefs’ it appears as though they are “not easily altered by a simple act of will.” But as I write this post I am doing so of my own free will disassociated from my beliefs. If I decide to have nachos for dinner rather ...

Re: Seeing Things Differently -DanP the apologist excuse.

Free will means a will free of restrictions. For example, if my will was completely free, I could will myself to believe I was an elephant. I don't have that freedom right now. I could pretend, but I don't see any way where I can convince myself perfectly that I am actually an elephant. That is one...

Re: Seeing Things Differently -DanP the apologist excuse.

Let's take the most simple statement of the problem by MG 2.0: The only objective reality is that which exists outside of our own mind. On another thread Gadianton marks me as as being solipsistic. In a certain respect that is true. Solipsism holds that knowledge of anything outside one's own mind ...
