Re: Grindael: RIP, A MormonDiscussions.com Treasure
Wow - that's heartbreaking news to see and a shock. I obviously did not know him beyond here, but he was gracious to take a lot of time replying with sources and was an incredibly talented historian and was clearly loved and respected on here. A huge loss and just sad to see.

Re: Have the Mopologists Found a New Protege?
I mentioned this the other day elsewhere, but what I found hilarious is that she wrote an article slamming progressives in the church, but then she mentioned progressive Mormons at the end of the FAIR podcast and Gee really lit her up over it. And she backpedaled and did her best to laugh it off, bu...

New Mormon Stories/RFM interview with Robert Ritner
I haven't had a chance to listen to it... and since it's a weekend might not until next week since I can't listen around my wife, but I can not wait to give this one a go. https://mormondiscussionpodcast.org/2020/07/radio-free-mormon-188-dr-robert-k-ritner-on-the-book-of-abraham-part-1/ A saw someon...

Re: Why the 116 pages story broke my brain and my shelf
I wrote about this last year in a brief summary and obviously it needs to be expanded, but yeah the 116 pages is just absurd. The idea that God created a second set of plates to cover that EXACT timeframe yet couldn't foresee any of the other problems such as Joseph's polygamy, ban on blacks, Nov 15...

Re: Newly Released Saints Volume 1 Provides Honest Look....
After doing the chapter-by-chapter review of Saints, the entire book reads this way. It's never Joseph's fault - it's either the members fault for not being faithful enough that they get punished, or that Joseph was totally doing polygamy in the most godly way he knew, etc. I can't do it again for v...

Re: Denying for the Lord
Is is believable that both J.F. McConkie and C.J. Ostler, academics with their focus on ancient scripture and church history and doctrine, respectively, did not by 2000 also know of the other accounts, If I recall correctly from Isaac Hale, Emma Hale and Oliver Cowdery, about Joseph Smith peering i...

Re: Official - LDS Charities spent only $100 million in 2019
Since the church refuses to give specifics, we have to work with the little bit that we have, but... From 1985-2009, just 27% of the church's "donations" were cash while the other 73% were "value of material assistance" which includes volunteer hours, etc. So if they "donate...

Re: 2nd Volume Of Saints - Prophets are blinded by the momen
What else can they do but put on some rose colored glasses? The ideal of Joseph Smith super prophet of the restoration (who could fly if God commanded) must be maintained. In contrast, the complete history shows a guy making up a religion. It shows Joseph as more of a charlatan, maybe sincere at ti...

Re: 2nd Volume Of Saints - Prophets are blinded by the momen
The volume also addresses some of the most controversial episodes in the faith’s history: the origins of the church’s priesthood/temple ban on black members, the horrific slaughter of 120 men, women and children known as the Mountain Meadows Massacre in 1857, and the saints’ role in pressures that ...

Re: Chadwick draws targets round cherry picked fallen arrows
So they're saying that the Book of Mormon, which relies entirely on the Bible, is true because Lehi left at a time where it would make sense for him to leave if you read the Bible a lot?
Is that what I'm getting or is there more evidence that Joseph Smith could not have possibly known?
