Now now, Kish. Leviticus 6:9

“Let he who has not yet raw dogged a pornstar just after the birth of his fifth child with his third wife cast the first stone.”

Re: Russell McGregor: Online Mopologist Extraordinaire

I have never liked this guy. He embodies some of the very worst of LDS apologetics. There are a few apologists out there who are like this; Lou Midgley, Robert Boylan, Russell McGregor really stand out. These guys are so poorly behaved in their apologetics that I would say they do more harm than good.

Mormons Against Trump

I am starting this thread partly because I want to counter the “Mormons Made Great Nazis” thread. I am proud to be Mormon, even though I do not affiliate with the LDS Church, because a growing number of Mormons, especially younger ones, oppose Trump, a political “leader” with a very strong combinati...

Re: Why all the screaming about WOKE?

I am tired of all of these gimmicky identity packages concocted in the continuing dance between activists, the media, and politicians. Based, woke, whatever. I say to blazes with the whole damned phenomenon. My idea is not to let loudmouth busybodies force their fads down our throats. I say this to ...

Re: Lars Nielsen's "How the Book of Mormon Came to Pass"

In my experience, Hales is a frustrating interlocutor. I am sure he means well, and he is not a bad guy, but his tactics are pretty slippery. He straw mans his opponents, and his own arguments are recycled. His Joseph couldn’t have done this ergo God arguments are his usual go-to approach. I am not ...

Re: Libertarian Fools' Paradise

I need to keep remembering that these people are scholars and intellectuals and not just randoms posting on the internet like me lol. I'm not entirely sure of the difference between civilisation and culture. I assume there may be a difference in that civilization is a group of people and culture is...

Re: Lars Nielsen's "How the Book of Mormon Came to Pass"

I came across this quote the other day but I didn’t write the source down. Just cut and pasted it into Google Keep Notes: There are two layers of reality. There is the objective reality of what happens, and there is the subjective reality of how what happened is seen, interpreted, made meaningful. ...

Re: Katie Britt’s Shtick Abides

It sometimes seems to me sometimes that Hamas and the Netanyahu government are competing to see who can be the most brutal and hateful. It's sad how many can't see that opposing the Israeli government's brutal extremes is not equivalent to antisemitism and opposing the slaughter and starvation of i...

Re: Lars Nielsen's "How the Book of Mormon Came to Pass"

It may be true, sadly, that being open to the possibility that there is something profound in a book may cause one to be more likely to find profundity, but it is certainly not a logical way to think. Suppose you are testing for A versus not-A. Simply acknowledging the possibility of A as a result ...

Thank you, Reverend, for such a thoughtful response. You have a nuanced approach to religion in general and Mormonism (big tent) in particular that I respect. Thank you for your thoughtful reply, RI. You are one of my favorite interlocutors on the board. You always bring challenging arguments and w...
