Re: Surreal

The LDS Church has never required mind surrender. Were you FLDS perhaps? If this is true please explain why the LDS church actively discourages their members from studying early church history outside of approved materials? Why would Dalin Oaks say that we should support our church leaders even whe...

Re: Dan Peterson's Fluff piece

NONE of them are unbiased. All of them are related to Joseph Smith either through blood or marriage. Why was Emma's own father Isaac Hale not convinced? Why wasn't he a witness? Perhaps because he was educated? Perhaps because he wasn't New England white trash like the Smith family? Because god did...

Re: Dan Peterson's Fluff piece

Given that the tree of life imagery comes from Joseph Smith, Senior, why argue that this was something separately derived from an ancient source? I believe that the source for this is lucy mack smith from her autobiography but this is a dubious source since memory can be confusing and loss of memor...

A page later, we get testimonies from eight witnesses who saw the same angel Emily saw: "We, the undersigned, hereby testify, that we saw the holy Angel, standing upon the house-top, as mentioned in the foregoing declaration, holding the Roll and Book. Betsey Boothe. Louisa Chamberlain. Caty D...

Re: Idea to bring issues of LDS history/Doctrine to TBM friends

My question to you is do you think your family and friends (people important to you in real life) would be happier questioning their long held cherished beliefs? In my case I do not think my family and friends would be happier. I certainly do not think my relationships with them would improve tryin...

Re: Idea to bring issues of LDS history/Doctrine to TBM friends

Honestly your plan and hope to destroy their faith sounds a little bit selfish. I mean we all want to be understood but at what cost? You want to slowly attempt to destroy their faith so you can feel justified in their eyes? I just want them to understand where I am coming from. Also I do think the...

Re: Eternal Promises

Actually TAO in this instance we do know what God told him to do. And it was different from what he was actually doing. His actions had serious consequences for the church. You know exactly what God told Joseph... including the things he was told not to share with others about? That's pretty cool.....

Re: Eternal Promises

We all make judgements on partial data. You actually are judging Joseph Smith here but you are trying to maintain the beliefs you have already reached even though some of the information does not support that conclusion. Your reasoning of "I don't know all the things that God told Joseph Smith...
