Re: Faith promoting stories
What you are really asking is the question of why evil exist. Having been raised to believe in an anthropomorphic benevolent deity I have never felt the explanations for the existence of evil to be satisfactory. Every time I hear a faith promoting story where something that started out bad ends up g...

Re: Healing through Priesthood blessing
I do not think you can dismiss the placebo effect in blessings of this nature. I believe a Priesthood blessing would be a waste of time for me to get because I do not have faith in them, but I cannot dismiss the effects it can have on people who believe they are going to get better as a result of th...

Re: Too sacred to share
Apologetics isn't about competing against other religions. It's aimed at the already-believing, so it doesn't have to be compelling to anyone who isn't predisposed to accept it. Not too many disinterested outsiders have been convinced by Mormon apologetics, but more than a few believers have been t...

Re: Too sacred to share
Of course this religious Darwinism also works against individual religions because they have to compete against each other as well as against atheism, agnosticism and non organized religion. Given the fact they are still here and thriving, Mormonism has done surprisingly well against other religions...

Re: Too sacred to share
Try discussing the concept of worshipping a Heavenly Mother and some respondents will reply that she is so sacred that even God will not discuss her. He is somehow protecting her. How does one protect an omniscient being?

I actually believe Joseph Smith was a prophet. I just don't believe he was infallible. I think TAO would agree with this. Where he and I disagree is on 'when' he was wrong.

Re: Eternal Promises
If Joseph Smith was beyond the law then are you implying that it was impossible for him to be wrong? Using this response one can justify anything Joseph Smith did. Certainly you can see how bad this excuse looks. Yes, I see such. It fits into this quotation: ...when God speaks and a man obeys, that...

*The consent of the previous wife must be sought *The plural wives must be virgins *The plural wives must be vowed to no one else *A man's plural wives "are given unto him to multiply and replenish the earth" *To raise up a seed to the Lord There is nowhere in LDS canon that gives anythin...

Re: Is Mother in heaven a God?
And that is why I am not Mormon, TAO. Perhaps one day you will look at it differently, that you might. Or we could look at it as the product of a patriarchal society which has consistently limited the role of women to reproduction and nurturing, without considering that they are capable of doing so...
