Re: Joseph the King in Mormon Theology
It turns out there is a bunch more evidence than I was aware of and Quinn has already done a great job of collecting it all. Yes, Joseph Smith most certainly believed his son David would be a the last days King prophesied in the Bible, and Joseph Smith definitely thought his son was of the lineage ...

Re: Joseph the King in Mormon Theology
Here is an in depth discussion of the first quote in the Encyclopedia of Mormonism published by BYU: m You'll find this first quote in Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, a trusted Mormon source compiled by one of the Joseph F. Smiths. The second quote was published in D. Michael Quinn's The Mor...

Re: Joseph the King in Mormon Theology
There you go. You don't believe Joseph Smith said one or the other. That's fine. I believe both of the quotes are reported by friendly sources though I know apologists shy away from the second one because it didn't pan out. If you're not too afraid, you could look into them yourself! I trust Joseph...

Re: Joseph the King in Mormon Theology
You'll have to clarify for me. Do you have a problem with either of the two main prophecies attributed to Joseph Smith, namely, a David in the last days from the lineage of King David would be a King of Israel OR that Joseph Smith's son David would be a King of Israel and President if the church? O...

Re: Joseph the King in Mormon Theology
I agree that it would be speculative from a doctrinal standpoint, and I'm not trying to establish doctrine or anything along those lines. I'm approaching the subject from a historical perspective, and I think I'm on pretty solid ground in that arena. I am not too sure about that either. I see a lot...

Re: Joseph the King in Mormon Theology
Most everyone is familiar with the idea that Joseph Smith's lineage came through Joseph of Egypt presented in these verses. I didn't quote them because they are so familiar. In my discussion I presented evidence, that you didn't address in your dismissal, that there was a belief in early Mormonism ...

Re: Joseph the King in Mormon Theology
Hi, this discussion has already gone on in the other thread. Before I respond, I'd like to point out that you've come out swinging at me as "so unintelligent that [i] can't see something so plain and obvious..." I think we're all allowed to make mistakes, so let's point things out intelli...

Re: Joseph the King in Mormon Theology
From the Mormon D&D board: http://www.mormondialogue.org/topic/69690-joseph-smiths-kingly-birthright-update-to-an-old-thread/ In Mormon theology, a King in the kingdom of Israel is a priesthood position. Notably, Joseph Smith himself was ordained as a King in this sense in the Council of Fifty,...

It doesn't actually.I have a question wrote:Replace ‘faith’ with ‘confirmation bias’ and your paragraph still works.

Re: MG & JLHPROF: From Whence Come Spiritual Experiences?
If there is a God/Creator/All Powerful Deity Who Was Once A Man Like Us etc who has the capability of communicating with each of us individually, why would he choose the exact same mechanism for communication as is used in confirmation bias? Couldn’t he send me a text/e mail/pick up the phone/meet ...
