Re: Arkansas woman dies in Oklahoma recreating Mormon trek
The more I read the weirder this gets: Paramedics said they took five juveniles to the hospital for heat-related illnesses last week - three of those minors were unconscious when medics got to camp. My employment involves coordinating year-round outdoor volunteer work. The work is strenuous and inv...

Re: What from the church made you happiest?
I enjoyed some people I met through church that I wouldn't have know otherwise. But nothing about church qua church really made me happy. It just was what it was, and when I could live a different life, I happily did.

Re: Thoughts On The Sabbath From The Bible Belt.
I couldn't help notice, as I was driving around, that all the local church parking lots (and down here in the Bible Belt there are plenty of churches) were all empty, their parishioners having already been home with their families, friends, and loved ones for hours enabling them to do a better job ...

Re: Thoughts On The Sabbath From The Bible Belt.
I didn't realize there was a renewed emphasis on sabbath observance. This might explain something I found curious lately. One of my only still-active siblings declined an invitation for a backpacking trip because it would have meant skipping church on Sunday. I was surprised, since she had been more...

Re: Peterson - Church Goers Live Longer Because Church Going
As others have suggested, I'm not sure adhering sufficiently to the beliefs, ideals, and practices required to be an LDS member in good standing could possibly yield a sufficient return on investment to justify living longer as an argument in favor of church activity. I didn't just gain Sundays back...

I wasn't looking for a reason to leave, but once I knew what I knew, I had no desire to stay.

Re: What's your age and how long have you been out of the ch
I'm 37, DH is 41. I stopped going to church by 2005, but I had been an active non-believer for several years before that just to keep the peace in my marriage. My husband was a tortured TBM in a mixed-faith marriage for those years until the Church made the mistake of directing our ward members (mor...

Re: Goofy Provo Temple Dedication "cultural" Extravaganza
As I read the recent discussion in the latest Runnells thread about Mormonism as an ethnicity, I was wondering about the implications of that idea with regard to families of mixed heritage, where one or both parents are converts, or where BIC children are born outside of Utah, etc. Using myself as a...

Re: Mass Resignations - now at 6,500
Mr. Naugle has set up a website where anyone and his dog can submit a resignation request (or perhaps even several). Mr. Naugle will not, I think, have any way of knowing which of these requests come from actual members and how many are from shills, cranks, never-mos, people who have previously res...

Re: PFS suggests new policy may not be divinely mandated...
I don't understand is what these silly "doctrine"/"policy" "speaking as a man"/"speaking as a prophet" dichotomies are supposed to accomplish. Either way this "policy" went through the twelve and they approved it, and it speaks to their character and...
