Totally serious. They’re very hardcore believers.
It just seems too stupid to be real.

Re: Hills Like White Lamanites

I dunno if I’m feeling overly emotional today or what, but this all chilled me to the bone (maybe that’s the side-effect from my fruit smoothie, though). Imagine being such an asshole you go to someone’s work to get them fired because words hurt your fee fees so badly. Right, Mike? - Doc It's the m...

Priesthood in the Book of Mormon?

Maybe this isn't the right forum for this question but does anyone know how much of the LDS priesthood doctrine is actually taught in the Book of Mormon? Since it is the most correct book and contains the fullness of the Gospel (allegedly) I would expect to see the doctrine at least somewhat clearly...

Re: Boylan the Beggar

I have not looked carefully at Boylan's work, and I don't want to pre-judge him, but so far he does not strike me as careful and contextual in his approach to church history. I will say more when I have had time to do justice to what he has written. Given our shared interests (Mormonism, exegetical...

Re: Boylan the Beggar

He has said that he studied Mormonism in his teens and was baptized LDS when he was 18. So I think all (or at least most) of his degree work was done after he converted. Ah. OK. Well, that makes a big difference in my mind. It starts to look more like he armed himself for apologetics. Based on what...

So he pursued the education after he converted? For some reason I thought it was the other way around.

That sounds about right! But why spend all that time in grad school studying theology and patristics?
An obsession with being right and a lack of touching grass can make people do things that only make sense to them.

Re: Boylan the Beggar

If he didn’t engage in his weird combative behavior, his blog would be completely unknown instead of just virtually unknown. That is probably true. He may also have some pent up anger if he thinks he should be more popular than he is. So lashing out probably feels cathartic and gets him the attenti...

Re: Boylan the Beggar

So, I don't begrudge any person who produces online content the right to seek donors. It is a tough gig. Also, Boylan does seem to know stuff. For people who are motivated to promote LDS apologetics, you could do worse than Boylan on the knowledge front, certainly. The only problem I have had with ...
