Re: Reviving the Board
Amen. I’m a staunch advocate for libertarian free speech but watching people take a dump in the punch bowl over and over and complain about being censored when the fecal matter is removed is getting really tiring. Not just here but in society as a whole. Challenging authority, especially government...

Re: So California Mormons vs Utah (et al) Mormons
I think it depends on the region and the Mormons. Those in rural areas of Utah are a lot more right-wing and nasty in my experience. Out in the "mission field," I would say that most Mormons know they are a small minority and are thus kinder to others and each other for that reason. With suburban Ut...

Re: SeN isn’t obsessed with Christopher Hitchens
Seems like Dan is going to be arguing against a book written almost two decades ago by a dead man right up until he himself kicks the bucket. He's so totally out of touch with real philosophy and secular thought that he continues to beat his dead horse and recycle fundamentalist propaganda from the ...

Re: Midgley Announces an Essay on “the silly and disgusting things” that BYU Admin Did to John Gee
If I have counted correctly, Saving Faith has 1,052 footnotes, and at least half of these draw upon contemporary social science scholarship central to the issues addressed in the book. Following footnotes in LDS apologetics is a well traveled road out of the church. The number doesn’t matter, the q...

Re: Conservatives and "believing falsehoods"
Apropos of this thread (from the article The campaign of Chris Christie's dreams ): "No matter what Chris Christie says - I apologize for my language - he has no f---ing shot to get the nomination," says Joe Walsh, a former Republican Illinois congressman who mounted a doomed primary challenge to T...

Re: Reviving the Board
I have indeed. Two Mormon related board bans before I found this board. The reason I haven't been banned here, in part, is because I am deeply loved and admired by this board's creator. yes. of course. it is interesting that posters who have been banned repeatedly every where else end up hap...

Re: Reviving the Board
I find it very typical and hilarious that the far right trolls who post here seem to be asking that their absurd and illogical beliefs be protected from criticism. Why it's almost like they don't actually believe in free speech, but instead want preferential treatment. They don't have the intellect ...

Re: Conservatives and "believing falsehoods"
As per usual, right wingers cannot discuss this or any other topic in a substantive manner. They are intellectually stunted people, limited by superstition.

Re: Conservatives and "believing falsehoods"
This study used betting to try to suss out why Republicans claim to believe Trump's easily disproven lies about his election loss. It found about half of Republicans were sure it was true and half were uncertain. I put vaccine and election information in a separate category than the example I cited...

Re: Conservatives and "believing falsehoods"
Dean Robbers, if I recall correctly, there is such a study. I have no idea where I saw it. My recollection is that offering a reward for correct answers had a substantial effect. There have been more than a few studies about the idea that people might give false answers to social scientists. (The w...
