Re: Why is the Church still promoting the idea that black skin is inferior?
Apologists have contended that the skin referred to is actually leather loincloths, thus as a punishment for their iniquities, God decided to turn their underwear dark and that all future underwear by these people would be dark. On a cheerful note, many Latter-Day Saints have held the belief that L...

Re: Table Dancing - Kevin Christensen's hit piece on the MI
Several essays base their arguments on the notion that the Book of Mormon adapts itself to a series of racist tropes common in the nineteenth century. In 2015, Ethan Sproat wrote an important essay that undercuts the arguments of those authors, but none of them address his case or evidence. Well ma...

Re: How can the Church lose $8 billion of member donations?
From a faithful standpoint they did not lose 8-29 billion of membership donations. They lost 8-29 billion of God's money. So if you are one of the faithful who have defended the need for God to have all that money, you must be concerned He is going to be angry at losing so much of it. Maybe it is ti...

Re: Review of; Writing Mormon History Historians and Their Books.
Kairos, Here is the quote from Compton's chapter in WMHHTB regarding Fanny's fanny in Joseph's tent. I have a friend who spent time researching in the LDS Archives in the "early days" long before it became more professional. He and a friend had been given access to many documents. One day he request...

Re: A professor weighs in on Buck
Dr. X " Joseph Smith used Buck when writing the Lectures on Faith (he cites Buck by name). There’s an excellent study : (Bowman, Matthew, and Samuel Brown. “Reverend Buck’s Theological Dictionary and the Struggle to Define American Evangelicalism, 1802–1851.” Journal of the Early Republic 29, no. 3...

Re: Why Schryver didn't publish.
I am not sure what you and I are saying is all that different. Maybe it was more than just textual control the church would have asked for from Prince too. The point is, using church controlled materials got a lot more difficult for authors in the ten years between Prince's two books and that might ...

Why Schryver didn't publish.
I claim no insider information here, but I just did notice a connection between a current book I am reading and some of the rumors I have heard regarding why Will Schryver may not have published his work on the KEP. I recently picked up a copy of Writing Mormon History: Historians and Their Books Ed...
