Re: Does God actually need to exist?

Are you able to reference any sources that show there was a significant number of saints at that time who believed Brigham and the saints were in apostasy? Regards, MG Good evening, I have a question. My point was that the membership cannot qualitatively determine Gods involvement or otherwise in t...

Re: Holland talks about the essays and historical questions

The foundation would be the idea of prophets (not one particular prophet), the idea of revelation (not one particular scripture or revelation), the nature of God, the doctrine of exaltation, etc. I will give it to you that, because of their founding nature, Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon are o...

Re: Does God actually need to exist?

MG's defense that if a restoration occurred then the Salt Lake City branch of Mormonism is still true, is a non-sequitur. There are hundreds of organizations that claim(ed) authority tracing back to Joseph Smith. Even if he is correct that a restoration may have occurred he still is left trying to ...

Re: Holland talks about the essays and historical questions

I think the historicity of the Book of Mormon and credibility of Joseph Smith are not only fundamentals of Mormonism, but the foundation of the church. They are not the foundation of the church, but one possible way (of many) to test the foundation of the church. Good evening, I have a question: Wh...

Re: Does God actually need to exist?

My question: Is change towards liberalism and freethinking indicative of apostasy or confirmation of the restoration process? (You seem to have said both, which obviously cannot be). I don't think the church has moved or will move in a direction of more freethinking and/or liberalism in basic core ...

Re: Does God actually need to exist?

Good evening mentalgymnast, I have a question: My suggestion is that, assuming God was involved in restoring the Church via Joseph Smith in the way it is claimed, if at some point following that event the Church drifted into a state of apostasy members wouldn't notice. When I asked what the hallmark...

Re: New Mission President is multi-millionaire head of MLM.

My question: Does operating the mission field in the way that this man is going to be inclined to operate it (I recognise I may have just done him a huge disservice), damage the reputation of the Church and further propagate the impression that "it's all about sales"? If I'm reading the a...

New Missionary is multi-millionaire head of MLM.

Good evening, I have a question: Two weeks ago, Utah-based Stampin’ Up! CEO and co-founder Shelli Gardner stood in the center of a well-lit stage in Orlando, Florida. She’s broken news to their independent demonstrators many times during the company’s 27-year history, but this announcement was diffe...

Re: Does God actually need to exist?

Good evening, I have a question: Thank you mental gymnast for your considered reply to my original question(s), I would like to follow up on some points that you raise. Church as a whole: At this point in time it's possible that there would be little noticeable change in the near future. Policies/pr...

Re: Does God actually need to exist?

Whenever these questions about whether or not God exists come up, it always seems to be on the assumption that God has human-like qualities and intervenes in human affairs. Such a God will always come up short, but there are many other models for God than that. Maybe, maybe ... But since this is a ...
