Re: Review: Essays on American Indian & Mormon History
Yes, this should be interesting. Last year I had a conversation with a young Navajo man who told me he no longer knows anyone who self-identifies as Lamanite.

The black character is depicted fondling the white character's bum. Would Brigham have approved?

Re: Mormon as a "Devil Word"
I attended a lecture by W. Paul Reeve, director of Mormon Studies at the U of U, shortly after the big announcement of the-word-that-shall-not-be-spoken. I felt so much sympathy for him trying to talk about Mormon Studies without using the evil word.

Re: What is the "bitter cup" in Christianity?
I think God actually made him drink a cup of coffee with no cream or sugar, so he could fully condescend with sinners who disobey the Word of Wisdom. Oops, sorry, I thought you said "bitter cup of Mormonism."

Re: Wayment, the JST and AOF8
I wasn't responding directly to the previous comment; just a general observation about how LDS apologists and members are becoming much more elastic in their understanding of how they must define scripture in light of things like the Clarke commentary, the contents of the Joseph Smith papyri, the se...

Re: Wayment, the JST and AOF8
I'm kinda late to the party but here's an inspired translation of a verse to make it a bit more prophetic:
Helaman 13:31 And behold, the time cometh that he curseth your scriptures, that they become slippery, that ye cannot hold them; and in the days of your apologetics ye cannot retain them.

General Authorities in training.I have a question wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 4:43 pmStudents of color there had hoped it might start a conversation at BYU-Idaho about their ongoing concerns with racism. But administrators, they say, have refused to sit down with them, acknowledge the post existed or apologize.

Re: Teryl Givens article on BH Roberts - where did it go?
The things like "wonder story" lines were intended to a) sound like a mocking critic, and b) spur action (i.e., this is what and how these will be thrown at us). With the exception of DNA criticisms (which he couldn't have anticipated), he was dead on as to what the Schwerpunkt of future criticism ...

Re: Teryl Givens article on BH Roberts - where did it go?
Then he knew better. [Sigh]. I'd like to know what he was basing his opinion that Roberts didn't believe in the LGT on. Just his own impression? Do you remember if Givens believed (so, probably believes?) that Roberts lost his belief in the Book of Mormon? As I recall (and I may be totally wrong ab...

Re: Teryl Givens article on BH Roberts - where did it go?
Hagoth --- when did you experience "Brother Givens' Traveling Salvation Show?" :) Was it around 2014, or much later? If later, than "boo" for Givens, because he clearly knew better. The ebb and flow of memory makes me dread a police investigator ever asking me "where were you on the night of...? bu...
