Re: Oaks complains about the Christmas cards he gets

"A few were so daring as to refer to “Peace on Earth” or “Faith, Hope, and Love,” but none had any pictures suggestive of religion." Ugh, this is dripping with rudeness and sarcasm. And I'd have thought that a "special" witness of Christ would realize the phrases he quotes are S...

Re: Member loses recommend for speaking against policy

Bloody hell.

What an awful thing to do to those young people with special needs (never mind Doree and Pat).

I know loads of members who disagree with this policy. I guess they'd better keep quiet, or else.

Re: Julie Rowe writes another book

I assumed Rowe's slightly quieter approach of late meant she had listened to the brethren's criticism and was going to tone things down a bit. Her announcement of a third book, especially the part about shouting her message from the rooftops, seemed to be inviting the church to 'bring it on.' Yester...

Re: How the LDS Church Punishes the Obedient

It's gaslighting. I thought it was me, at first. I assumed I had misheard/misunderstood what I'd been taught. I went back and read the YW manuals and then I realised I wasn't misremembering. I even downloaded the manuals before they were changed, just in case I wanted/needed to quote from them in th...

Re: How the LDS Church Punishes the Obedient

Good point! I gave up my university scholarship to get married and have children. Years later, having left the church, I was told that my failure to complete my education was *entirely* my own decision because the church has NEVER expected women to have children straight after marriage. Yet in the c...

Julie Rowe writes another book

Julie Rowe has announced a third book, to be published next year. She will be including information from "reminder" dreams and plans to "shout it from the rooftops". Excited to let you know that I will have a third book released this coming February 2016! This book will include i...

Re: Regrets over resigning?

My husband and I resigned together and we had our children's names removed, too. I found the way church behaved in respect to proposition 8 devastating. For me, it was the icing on the crap cake. Up until that point I had been telling myself that, irrespective of the truth claims, the church was a g...

Re: First presidency clarifies Handbook

I love "clarification" that turns a merely asshole policy into an epic clusterfuck. They fasted and prayed all week and the sum of what they came up with was "primary residence" and "it was the members fault for not having all the relevant information". Wow. I know. It...

Re: Ursula Le Guin weighs in on the current LDS situation

But she did it in 1973. If you are hurting about the current situation and haven't read The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas , I highly recommend it. It may help you understand yourself a bit better (it did for me). http://engl210-deykute.wikispaces.umb.edu/file/view/omelas.pdf A big thanks to Moksha...
