Re: Lars Nielsen's "How the Book of Mormon Came to Pass"
Guessing where was a popular game; British Israelism was even a thing. Since no ten lost tribes had actually left any discernible trace in any places with history known to Europeans, the guess that the tribes had slipped out of Old World history by going to the New World was an inspiration that str...

Re: Lars Nielsen's "How the Book of Mormon Came to Pass"
Hi, I just thought I'd throw in an additional piece of the puzzle that is historical and as factual as we can achieve these days: https://journal.interpreterfoundation.org/joseph-smiths-education-and-intellect-as-described-in-documentary-sources/ Thanks, Brian Thank you for dropping by, Brian. I ap...

Absolutely nailed it.bill4long wrote: ↑Wed May 08, 2024 4:38 amAside from that, I'm an armchair lawyer and court junkie and her testimony was about the dullest, clueless damn thing I've ever heard, except for all the "sovereign citizens." But they can be quite entertaining at times despite their idiotic legal theories.

Re: Israel
I saw a funny quip. I guess a NYPD spokesperson or captain said something about how they must be getting training from somewhere to have learned to barricade themselves in so well. The person highlighting it pointed out that these kids first got trained by their elementary school teachers as part o...

Re: Lars Nielsen's "How the Book of Mormon Came to Pass"
Why on earth not?? I refer you back to my discussion of conflation and resemblance. And the significant resemblance is due to the fact that the latter was ripped off from the former. That is your assertion. It remains to be proven. Then why did Nehemiah King say it was Spalding's work instead of sa...

Re: Lars Nielsen's "How the Book of Mormon Came to Pass"
That's a perfect description of how to exercise bias against those one disagrees with, for no good reason other than one assumes they are inferior humans. Not really a rational position, unfortunately. Sure it’s rational. Go to the author to ask what they intended something in their book to mean. D...

Re: Lars Nielsen's "How the Book of Mormon Came to Pass"
Just curious Smith said the word "Mormon" meant "more good" Wesley P Walters in his Mth said it mean "frightening" based as an adjective for "mormo" means hideus face or mask. or "Mormo (Greek: Μορμώ, Mormō) was a female spirit in Greek folklore, whose name was invoked by mothers and nurses to frig...

Re: Lars Nielsen's "How the Book of Mormon Came to Pass"
Why does either name need an explanation at all? Nephi is from Judges. Lehi is from 2 Maccabees https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/2-Maccabees-Chapter-1/#36 I guess this thread has me thinking, what is this book trying to explain at all? Sure, I guess more background information about the context...
