Oh yum they look even better now that the shine has come up. <3

I am planning [sons] bedroom update but dreading to start it. The plan is to paint it entirely white, then the skirtings and door frames and window sill grey. One wall will have star wars wall paper, can't decide between two but I'll post both. And the opposite wall I plan to hand paint grey or black outline images like a mural. I add images. Then grey curtains and grey bedding. He already has a white bunk bed.

Or...

Something along these lines for a mural but will plan it with [son]

Wow! That's a great idea! I like that second pattern a lot because it looks like the actual plans for all the star ship things. Fresh paint and wall paper can totally transform a space and it doesn't cost a ton either. I know what you mean about getting started though. You have to be in the mood! I've got a small bathroom with paint swatches on it and still haven't started on the painting!

Here's Catherine in Dublin. She does a lot of wall papering, etc. in her home. It's all flowers but it might give you a "push" to get started! Love. her.

ETA: I just looked at that wall paper pattern I like and it actually says Blueprints. Didn't notice that at first!
Thank you. I actually like the blue print one too. However the price difference is crazy. The black one would cost £6 and the blue print one, I'd need 2 rolls and that's £30 a roll. So that kind of makes a difference. But ultimately, I will see which [son] prefers. I plan to paint the wall under the paper white so that if we move and the landlady wants the paper gone she won't have to paint too much. I'll post pics of I ever get round to it lol. Will show you the kids rooms at the moment...

I did these myself. Not changing Phoebe's room. They are slightly different now actually. Did more shapes on the wall behind the bed in the blue room since then.

Husband gets a discount on paint. I choose the colours and put them on a form and he hands it in and a few weeks later he brings them home and the cost comes out of his pay spread across the year. Will be ordering dark blue and mason paint next. He won't bring home white paint though because he has a limit and he thinks white paint is a waste of his limit because it's relatively cheap to buy which is fair enough.

Nicky I saw your pics earlier and honestly, my jaw dropped. If you wanted to make extra money do you realize you could hire yourself out? Your designs (especially the blue room) are outstanding! I could imagine other renters especially being interested in renter-friendly transformation. Woman! You're crazy good at design and your color choices are good grief...the contrast and cohesiveness. I don't think I have any words left!

What I really like, too, is that your rooms "breathe", they aren't over or under done. I think they're just right! Not "cluttery", but calming with an "open" feel. I really love that! Your paint lines are so clean!

Q: Your walls are plaster there, right?

Should probably say, we have easy access to paint. These paints are £60 a tin but because of Jamie's job he gets them for £10 a tin.
That's great he gets his discount! The cost of paint is pretty high over here, too. We do get a military discount in some places, but it's only 10%. Not even close to what Jamie gets.

How did you make those geometric designs? Did you dream those up? Are the mountains your design? Also I love the wall paper (fairie horses) and how you matched the complimentary paint colors.

How long did it take you to decide on your colors?

I can't get over how neat your work looks. :o

I'm afraid to ask about the flying fairie horses on the wall. :) Are those rub on transfers or what are they? Did you DRAW and paint those by hand?

Awww lol. The walls are brick with plaster on top. But the two walls I've painted shapes and mountains on are actually wallpaper. I just painted over the existing wallpaper because then I can just strip it instead of sanding it.

So in [sons] room I'm not sure where the idea came from we already had some colours from [daughters] first room. I'll post that. I drew shapes with [son]on paper and then adjusted as I did it to how I liked lol. His room when we moved in was bright pink and I had it all light blue with one wall dark blue which is the dark blue that is still there now. And I just touched up the light blue. The curtains were before too. I did originally given him black space curtains but he was getting frightened by them at night so switched to light blue ones. I used masking tape on the straight lines and then did the circles free hand. And some colours are just two colours mixed and one colour is from [daughter's] mountains.

In [daughter] room, I looked for wallpapers with her and she chose the unicorns and then I picked out colours to match that. Then on the big wall I had no idea what to do. Googled for a while and decided to do mountains. The colours are just what I thought would go together. I used a collage app to put the colours and the wallpaper in the same image and that gives me an idea. Will show you ones I know I still have.

I just used masking tape. The flying unicorns are stickers from Amazon. They've actually fallen off now. I'm not that skilled lol. I do plan to do a mural by hand in Oliver's room. If I ever get round to it.

I get overwhelmed easily so there is a fair amount of simplicity in the house. Livingroom has crowns and dado rails so that I have done white at the top sage at the bottom a pink and sage flowery wallpaper on the chimney breast and pink curtains. Did have pink lampshades but switched them for white ones because I had a touch of SAD and forgot to change them back. I'll post other pictures below...

The bed in the mermaid room is actually the blue bed from the blue room. I did the blue room first and got Oli a new bed and then gave Phoebe the blue mid sleeper but I painted it and chopped the legs off.

Replied above.

The mermaid room is now our room. It's the smallest room but we've got a big blue king-size bed in there. It's still like that but I am planning to paint it white with dark blue and dark blue curtains but I have a list of jobs lol. Then we have the clothes room which I've never decorated. It had 3 wardrobes, a set of drawers, an alcove and a tumble dryer in there and a massive pile of clothes to be sorted  lol.

This was when Oli was a baby

This is an old house. It was all yellow and we painted it white and put a wallpaper on the chimney wall.

The wallpaper is white. This was before I discovered daylight bulbs. ( I need daylight bulbs or I feel suffocated don't know why).

I like the blueprint one too. Could you save money be just covering maybe three blank canvases with the wallpaper and hanging them abstractly on one wall?
