OK, lets start with what a bigot is NOT:
A bigot is not someone who attacks a person/group/organization with reason and noncircumstantial evidence. A bigot is not someone who disagrees with someone elses opinions.
Well then what IS a bigot:
Given the definitions, a bigot is someone who with no logical basis attacks a person/group/organization. Its all about the logic, a.k.a. REASONING.
"The World" Vs Mormons:
THe Mormon corporations interest is in building the perception everyone is out to get the Mormons, using the term bigot at times in hushed voices to describe the "illogical opposition".
In reality it is a pot/kettle situation. The patterns of racism, misogyny, homophobia and attacks on those who have left the church are indefensible and are a true mark of character for the organization.
The inability for nonmormons to accept the marginalised and patently false views of the Mormon church is seen as a prelude to bigotry in Mormon eyes. Many leaders, missionaries and members view "the world" as a mobilized force wherein much time and energy is dedicated to the sole goal of destroying their petty and ignorant corporation.
The members are whipped into an emotional fight/flight response in order to further circle the proverbial wagons, bigotry being used as the moniker of "the worlds" driving force against a little known, barely understood religion from an economically depressed religious fiefdom known as Utah.
The reality:
Mormonism is a closed marginality in which difference is used to define the self. Others unlike them are seen as something to tear down instead of learn from. "We are not sinners, that is what we are not" is used to brand the malleable minds of children. Right-leaning politics and "all american" activities further this mentality. The subtext of Bigotry is implemented to scare and isolate the members, creating an image of the exmormon as an individual devoid of the ability to make moral determinations. Exmormons are viewed as pure evil, many internet Mormons using the incorrect term perdition to describe them when in reality their own doctrine contradicts the use of perdition in this fashion.
The false construct of sin, "disobeying gods rules", is used to justify almost every bigots agenda. Homosexuals are sodomites, Femminists don't know their correct place, Democrats are baby killers bent on giving money to the poor and letting illegal immigrants take over the country. And on and on and on. Sin, it seems, is where bigotry begins. Sin is the seed of justification for hate.
Exmormons are hated the most because we have committed the ultimate sin, thinking for ourselves. And this is the ultimate in bigotry, hate for those who have justifiable grievances. In retrospect though this is nothing new. The farther away you get from the marginalisation of Mormonism the more venomous the language directed towards you, almost in an exponential curve, where the X axis is distance from the "Mormon norm" and the Y axis is the ammount of anger (ignorantly) used to reverse the disaffection. In a reverse-discrimination type situation, Mormons claim exmormons are bigots when in reality its their coping mechanism because they do not understand the logic behind exmormons valid grievances against the church.
