I don't see how this is a huge deal. The Church hasn't been practicing polygamy for years even in countries where it is legal. If it were vital we do it wherever and whenever allowed, polygamy would have been authorized by region for years now. I predict it will be legal in the next 10 years. I don't think the Church will practice it immediately. I don't know if they ever will.

I noticed that the Pres. Hinckley also often pointed out that not only is polygamy not practiced but it's not permitted in Church to speak of it favorably or from what I've seen speak of it period. Growing up in the Church, we often talked about polygamy and presented it as a true principle and yes a higher law that we could not fulfill at this time.
I mentioned polygamy in EQ meeting when speaking of the restoration of all things, animal sacrifices, law of consecration etc. I barely got out of the Church without a lynch mob. Honestly, it wasn't anything offensive, just saying the word "polygamy" can set a whole church off now. I've definitely seen a shift in the beliefs of Mormons now than 20 years ago.
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

Don't you mean, "Ever .... in this life." If you hold fast to the teachings of the church, then Celestial Marriage has to be practiced either in this life or the next in order to obtain the Celestial Kingdom. D&C 132.
So I'm just saying, never say never.

Whit a load ae shite, Ah huv never seen a stupider questions posed in mae life, (except by myself).
What makes you think the church would need to care if polygamy became legal? Homosexual marrage in the UK is legal, do you see British Mormons worrying, thinking they should instate it because it is legal, I know Scriptures say live the law of the land, but such laws are at ones discression, it is not as though all couples must be gay in the UK and I do not believe polygamy is a must.
In regards to competition, the church will just have a conference to convince the people that God would tell us when we should have polygamy, or the like. Just brainwash people into thinking it is wrong, like porn and stuff... although I think porn is wrong, but do you get what I mean?
