3 Nephi Chapter 8 is a detailed account of the destruction caused by a massive volcanic eruption.
The following video is from the good people at the online Encyclopedia Brittanica. It describes the account of Pliney the Younger, concerning the destruction of Pompei.

It all actually happened in Alaska and the Yukon territory and the melting snow wiped out all traces of the built up civilization. Then later the Polar Bears ate all the lamanites and that is why you don't see them show up in DNA testing?
Or, since they occupied ocean to ocean, how about the Owens Valley in California? Utah is a good one with all the Lava flows and Brigham saying the Manti Temple site had been previously dedicated by a Book of Mormon prophet.

The Britannica link doesn't work for me. The question isn't were there volcanoes, there were, quite a lot. The question is whether the events described in 3 Nephi fit the time frame for massive volcanic eruptions, as would have to have occurred around 30-33 AD. I did research into this (when I posted on FAIR) and found none around that time. I also tried to consult Payson Sheets (Mesoamerican scholar) on this, but unfortunately his reply was "the Book of Mormon has nothing to do with reality".
I'll try to provide some charts later.

Pliny Evidence
Her Amun,
Two glaring differences between the Book of Mormon destruction and Pliny the Younger's description of the eruption of Vesuvius:
1. The Book of Mormon makes no mention of ash which is so prominent in Pliny's authentic account.
2. Pliny mentions that they "relieved" the "darkness, blacker and denser than any ordinary night", by "lighting torches and various kinds of lamp." Meanwhile, the darkness in the Book of Mormon was more supernatural in nature, wherein for three days "there could be no light, because of the darkness, neither candles, neither torches; neither could there be fire kindled with their fine and exceedingly dry wood, so that there could not be any light at all".
It is also important to bear in mind that Vesuvius buried Pompeii and Herculaneum, preserving them for future archaeologists. As Ray pointed out above, there do not seem to be any Mesoamerican equivalents anywhere near the time period designated by the Book of Mormon.
