In terms of turning in your recommend, well why? If you feel the temple is an important part of your spiritual journey then why eliminate it out of anger or spite?

Don't harm your world because of the lack of integrity of another.

You may not want to share any person information with the guys in your quorum. :-)

I couldn't agree with this approach more. It makes perfect sense.

But what frustrated me was that as a youth I sort of had to figure this out myself. The vast majority of Mormon leaders would like you to believe that they are infallible when it comes to Church or God would instantly replace them from their position. Well we know this just isn't true when it comes to spreading confidential information. You open yourself up to so many forms of damage when you start divulging this kind of information to a priesthood leader that sometimes it's hard for me to even count the number of things that could go wrong.

I had a bishop in my mission in South America that would stand up and specifically name the people and offenses they had committed in Sacrament meeting. His reasoning was that he didn't think the people were taking their sins seriously enough. BCSpace how long do you think it took them to change bishops after several incidents like that? I know how long it took, but what do you think? I'll give you a hint, it was a lot longer than it took them to get rid of the bishop stealing tithing funds. I personally will never confess another sin to the bishop. While I respect the Church's need to have worthy people serving, if I become unworthy as they care to define it I simply will not return until I feel I am worthy. What does the bishop really do for a person to help him repent? Do they have any special information that might change your mind on why you fell to a temptation? They have nothing. Tao could give ten times better answers than any bishop. Stern words never really motivated me much anyway. When I have the spirit with me and the love of the God that exists the way I believe He does exist. I am happy about doing what I believe to be right and as I determine it to be right, not the bishop, not the Elders Quorum President, and certainly not the High Priests Gossip leader. Relief society leaders love to get in on the gossip too. Some of them feel it's part of their right as leaders, a perk or fringe benefit of the job if you will. I think that's why some of them want the priesthood is to get to hear about all the dirt on pepole. It's my life and my agency and really it's my call and between me and God. Just like how tithing funds are managed is between the leadership and God. My TBM mother would say I'm not telling the truth. But even she complained that the bishop never treated our family the same after I went in and expressed some of my doubts and concerns. They got me back in that bishops office once. They won't get me back there again.

I have real reservations about allowing my chilldren to be interviewed by LDS leadership. That would basically mean leaving the church if I didn't. I'm not sure what to say. Let them go through it like I did and learn from the school of hard knocks? I guess that's an ugly part of life we all have a right to experience. Good or bad, experience is a great teacher.
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

I just had a really horrifying thought. Did Mr. Scratch ever serve in the bishopric? Who says he is not in one right now?

I am going to disagree with many of you, this is just my opinion on this matter.

My opinion is the LDS church at one point found no need to keep detailed records of church discipline and what knowledge existed only existed as memories in the minds of those involved. However, for a Bishop or Stake President in this day and age to not know of any past discipline issues or egregious activity particularly in regards to calling people to important ward and stake callings can be dangerous.

While I believe that this database is probably only refered to when only newer people in the ward or stake are in consideration for a calling, I am sure there are a very few number of Bishops and Stake Presidents who read over these records like a bad trashy romance novel. I don't believe this information is kept locally because people move on average about every five years.

In your case, you have a Bishop or someone in your ward who has access to this information and a lot of gall to be spreading these things around.

If none of this is taking place and it's all a part of my imagination then expect in the not so distant future some guy with a checkered past to teach your nine year old daughter in primary.

There may be some who are called with checkered pasts but if the Bishop listens to the spirit, the spirit is going to guide him to make sure the right person gets the right calling. This particular Bishop that this discussion is about has failed to keep private the things he must have found out about.
