"Literally"? you mean from the Greek Stoic context, since surely they translated the Hebrew text and chose the word stereoma or did you mean literally from Jewish? or Catholic? or St. Basil? or Augustine? or Calvin? or Copernicus?......maybe it is the Primum Mobile? because "literally" the Hebrew text is ( רקיע) or (raqia) as in to beat or spread out....most educated people consider the best english translation to be "expanse".....so, how one translates that as a "literal" snow globe must be the stuff of saturday morning television.

Yes, to beat or spread out as in a piece of solid material. Thanks for the assist.

admittedly, you need all the "assistance" you can get....but "as in" is your opinion. By assumption "beat out" would be for a solid material, but "spread" infers many material states. too bad, so sad, for you. but its ok, a lot of people have shallow understandings of the Bible and its context, so you wont be lonely.

I'm merely describing the world as the Hebrews actually saw it. That was their cosmology, sub. In one passage the material of the firmament is described as crystalline. The idea was that the stars were hung on this massive piece of solid material, and that the throne of God was literally on top of the done. That's why the Tower of Babel was so threatening to Yahweh - there was a chance, per Hebrew cosmology, that they could actually reach the throne of God.

Have you ever bought one of those snow globes, with the plastic or glass dome over top the flat base? That's what the firmament was supposed to be. Literally.
My dear Mr, Buffalo, as we all know not everyone agrees today. How is it that EVERYONE agreed Anciently? That is contraindicated now is it not? So knowing which notion of something God intended makes a big difference from what whose-a-unit thought.
