At an early point in my life, I was part owner of an irrigation construction company. An old salt that ran one of our construction crews would use two bent copper wires to divine where existing pipes lay in the ground. He was almost always correct.
I never thought it was magic, just some interaction between the copper wires and some electrical or magnetic field. How do metal detectors work?

They work different ways, google who (what?) is our god can explain. One thing is certain: they always work.
