You can justify the act all you want but the facts are plain to see. Those who committed the act were vile murderers no matter how you wish to excuse them. They had the whole Fancher party in their power...they were absolutely no threat...how can you in any way make excuses for cold blooded, premeditated murder? As Brigham Young is reported to have said when he visited the site: "Vengeance is mine saith the Lord...and he has taken a little." There, I think was the real motive...cold blooded vengeance.
