I was raised Episcopalian, I loved my church. I had a Mormon friend in high school, he was the one that brought the church to my door step and I was loved into the church by its doctrine and its loving members.
I became pregnant my last year of high school, my family pressured me to give up my baby once their pressure of forcing me to have a abortion did not work .
Being a single parent was new in those days, I felt so pressured I was ill though my pregnancy. Once my son was born my family doctor would not allow me to go home until I made up my mind, it was more my family's mind. I made friends with another mother's on that floor who was also a church member she was non judgmental and was so kind just as my friend had been.
A adoption case worker showed up in my hospital room one morning shoving paper work at me to sign. My mother had sent her.
I ran to the pay phone and called my friend. He showed up and kicked her out of my room.
I asked my Episcopalian minster to visit me in the hospital and he refused, saying when I signed the paper work he would then come. That was the last time we spoke.

My Mormon friend offered to have his bishop come visit me and he did the next morning.
He sat in my room while I cried and talked, my lunch arrived and he said "that wont do" he left and brought me back lunch. That Bishop spent the whole day with me. His kindness helped me greatly. I was able to go home and stand up to my family and bring my son home. I did not know at that time that my bishop had another job. He thought me real prayer not just something read out of a prayer book. That gave me strength to deal with what I had ahead of me.
My friend came by the Sunday after I came home to take me to church. The mother I made friends with saw me at the door and pulled some of the other sisters over to meet me. They made a fuss over my baby and told me they would throw me a baby shower. (none in my family did)
The Bishop saw me, came over hugged me and kissed my sons forehead and said" I know this was what you needed to do (keep my son) but I could not tell you to, you needed your father in heaven to tell you. I was welcomed and loved. The Relief Society sister's found out I know little how to care for my child. When my shower happened the sisters played games using dolls, called bath the baby and dipper the baby, It was not till years later I realized that those sisters taught me how to care for my baby with out making me feel bad about myself. You see when I brought my son home I had to read the side of the dipper box to know how to change a dipper.
Every thing I know about children home making I learned though the sisters in the church.
I meet with the elders and my friend baptized me a month later.
My family changed after that because my life changed and their rebuke and bitterness fell away.
Its been 35 years, though my choice of life has brought me a husband (no not my friend) four children and a military life for 25 years.
It was the greatest gift of all was those members were true followers of Jesus Christ by showing true Christ like love.

Sigh... I hate conversing with Believers sometimes. What denomination, sect, or faith did you belong in or was raised in?

I was raised in a Fundamentalist church; however, I did not accept Christ personally until I was 12. Church affiliation does nothing to save an individual. It is as one's heart is moved by the Holy Spirit unto acceptance. I was saved in the church I was raised in...
