I am just not sure how or why it came to be understood as the sine qua non of spirituality to see Jesus.
I mean, other things would seem more important.
Like how we treat others.

You're both saying much of the same thing.
Matthew 25 suggests that seeing/treating others as if they were Jesus is one and the same.
