Did the Apostles regard themselves as LDS or Followers of Christ?

If the Apostles did regard themselves LDS why didn't they have the Book of Mormon? Did they need it and if not, is it any more relevant today as it was 2000 years ago?

The question posed is rather loaded and not clear. Although the “apostles” of the New Testament claimed they were living in the last days in which Christ would “soon” return (Second Coming), it’s quite evident that the era in question (2000 years ago) could not be the last days in which to fulfill that prophecy. I can’t imagine Joseph Smith claiming those people needed his Book of Mormon when they already had the complete Old Testament and were in process of making their own religious records which they deemed sacred.

Frankly, nobody really needs the Book of Mormon, not then, not now, and not ever. The book is designed to enslave the mind, promote guilt, and keep order in a cult religion.

I suppose a person might note that even if real the Book of Mormon was not yet written at the time of the apostles so of course they did not have the book.

The idea of LDS is a Restoration in the latter days so those original apostles in the earlier days would not be latter days.(LDS)
