Wow, the Maxwell Institute offering a six-week stint to "apostate" Mike Reed and "career anti-Mormon" Chris Smith? Say it ain't so!

I'm told that Bushman went to bat for us. :)
Bushman is really a fantastic fellow. I like him a lot.

If so, he kinder hooked them.

Joey wrote:Pardon the applicable saying here, but this is exactly what is meant by "Only in Provo"! What can possibly be the outcome of such a study other than mantra for some F&T Sunday session. Who in the academic world, outside of Provo, would devote any serious study to such a project? I really wonder if there is any serious "scholarship" involved in such a program at all.
I'd put this effort right along side with studying the cultural impact that the space craft trailing the Hale Bopp comet had on the Heavens Gate movement! What kind of "scholars" would that study attract?
Some "scholars" just have way too much time on their hands in Provo!!
Um Joey... The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is based out of Salt Lake City. There are many LDS in said city who would be very interested, and perhaps even participated I the scholarly endeavors.
P.S. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, that doesn't surprise me, and my admiration for Dr. Bushman has just increased even more. Can you imagine what would have happened if Bill Hamblin had been given the task of determining whether or not to allow Mike Reed into the seminar?

One thing is certain, Mike wouldn't be in the seminar. We would be left speculating about what happened to his application, and if we suggested that the fact Hamblin was in charge had anything to do with it, we would be corrected very quickly. And doubtless we would have been completely wrong to suggest that Hamblin had any role in turning Mike down. ;-)
But that is just speculation. I am sure Bill would have given Mike a scholarship and would have welcomed him with open arms and a manly pat on the back.
