Re: The Endowment and Freemasonry
Well, given that Smith was a Freemason, I think this is a given.

Please reread the thread. The question is whether or not he was a mason or had prior knowledge of masonry before he was initiated into the highest degree in Nauvoo.

Albion: I think its the way you worded it...
some people brains cannot untangle double negatives.
- What Albion is actually saying is: it is UNLIKELY that Joseph Smith was NOT a mason already, before his initiation in to the Navoo lodge.
It is a probability, along with family members telling him, getting hold of expos'e books and therefore scientifically must be considered as most likely
before any divine / supernatural means.
In My Personal Opinion: Joseph Smith was a Genius!
Joseph Smith had a knack of reversing the Excuse 'the Devil made me do it!'
into the convincing people that 'God told me to do it!'

PrickKicker: I used to be a Narrow minded, short sighted, Lying, Racist, Homophobic, Pious, Moron. But they were all behavioral traits that I had learnt through Mormonism.

Re: The Endowment and Freemasonry
As a youth I was taught (local leadership) that Freemasonry was an evil organization and not to investigate it.
As an adult during a recommend interview (Stake level) I asked for some examples of groups that I shouldn't associate with because their teachings are contrary to those of the Church. The xample I was given...Freemasonry.
