the same principle is at play when Nephi is told to kill Laban. Thou shalt not kill/kill Laban. Keeping a handle on good is not so easy as a set of written rules. That which is wrong under one circumstance, may be, and often is right under another. Joseph Smith it is a life long pursuit
I'm fuzzy on the whole good/bad thing. What do you mean, "bad"?

The question should be, would God lie
Justice = Getting what you deserve
Mercy = Not getting what you deserve
Grace = Getting what you can never deserve

There was no reason for God to have Nephi do his dirty work. God could have snuffed Laban out with a stroke or heart attack rather than turning Nephi into a murderer. Dumb.

Sounds similar to what Allah tells Muslims to do. It may be that all religions teach that lying to gain advantage is OK.

Both Pharaoh and Abimelech were punished for falling for Abraham's lie . However Abimelech was warned by God and he was spared .

God told Moses to lie to Pharoah and to "borrow" his gold and riches, but the real story he was telling to the Israelites was that they where Going to steal the Egyptians Gold and leave them desolate when they took off into the desert.

Genesis 22 also teaches that when God commanded of Abraham that he kill his son, not only did Abraham leap at the chance, but lied to Isaac multiple times before the attempted murder.

I think the moral here is don't lie unless you are the prophet.
