Carol Makita (the local newscaster) keeps losing her composure and crying.
The co-anchor keeps jumping in to save her.

Monson is the President of the Quorum of the 12. Traditionally, he should be the next prophet. Since he is one of the younger apostles, it is likely he will be the prophet for quite some time, provided he stays in good health.
Pres. Monson's health is a concern--I believe he has diabetes.
I'll miss Pres. Hinckley, but I'm glad he is able to be reunited with his beloved wife. He had spent most of his life with her and was lonely these last couple of years since her death. I'm glad he was able to go peacefully at home.

BYU students will be gathering at Temple Square at 10:30 tonight for a candlelight memorial.

Well that sucks. No matter how you feel about the Institution and it's policy it looks like he was a very good person. My condolences to the family, friends, and church body as a whole. :(

I liked President Hinckley. He was there in the church leadership and in General Conference from as early I can remember. And he was conducting conferences as a member of the First Presidency nearly 25 years ago. He's a very familiar face and voice.
The man was unfailingly optimistic, quick with a joke, not given to extremes, and full of the kind of practical wisdom that enables one to live a happy, active, productive, and service-oriented life for nearly a century.
The Hinckleys seem to be an excellent family. One of Gordon B. Hinckley's sons was in our stake presidency in Salt Lake when I was growing up. And President Hinckley's granddaughter Jenny was in my highschool graduating class, and was about as kind and cheerful a person as one could hope to meet.
I had long harbored a hope that Gordon B. Hinckley would be the first LDS president to live to 100. He seemed to have a good shot at it, and I thought it would be neat for him and the church.
I really have very little idea what a Thomas S. Monson presidency holds for the church. Monson's sentimental, sing-songy talks tell you about his speaking style, but little or nothing about how he would administer a global religious institution. I expect that he, like his predecessor, will be upbeat, tireless, and moderate. But beyond that, I'm clueless.

We were called this evening via the ward phone tree. DH then called all our children. One of them had heard it already, via his wife's family. It's news, even this far outside of the Zion Curtain.
Hey - I'm wrong again - that's not new.
