However, there are some such as BC and Droopy that think if one has political views outside of right-wing politics, that disqualifies them by definition from being a good LDS member. Here once again we are into defining the LDS religion by politics.

Perhaps for some the Church and right-wing politics are inextricably linked, however, I think this linkage is to the detriment of the Church.


You're approaching this backwards. It's not so much politics as it is living your religion. Left-wing politics happens to be contrary in virtually every way to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Nothing need be said about conservative politics as at worst, it is gospel neutral (the perfect fit for free agency).

To me Free Wheeling and Dealing may be an exercise in free agency, but it lacks plenty of ethics. This endless quest to make a buck at all costs and let your neighbor starve because your not sharing any of your loot with those socialists in government is definitely not gospel neutral. Don't even get me started about conservative politics at its worse. That illusion should have even been shattered for J. Reuben Clark.
