Re: Moroni & The Lost 10 Tribes
The only nerve Tobin has struck with his posts is my funny bone. Do you think that when he speaks with God, Tobin speaks in tongues--perhaps the pure Adamic language? It would take a supernatural being to make sense of Tobin's mutterings. I'm leaving Tobin's Land of Oz for the real world where facts, reason and a search for truth count for something. Beam me up Scotty!

Re: Moroni & The Lost 10 Tribes
You are welcome to come back any time. Please bring more than a thimble full of understanding of Mormon beliefs next time. Also, it helps to at least attempt to discuss things, try to make a point or even a coherent argument too, and not fall back to using generalizations and shutting down any hope of discourse by labeling things with words like 'crazy' or attacking your opponents out of the gate.smitchell1 wrote:The only nerve Tobin has struck with his posts is my funny bone. I would not have imagined ever siding with Tobin, but in this case I am. I think that, with his present attitude, Smitchell will not begin to take any of this very seriously at all until his spirit starts to leave his body, and then he will start to rethink things!

Can you provide a reputable, or verifiable ,source that this was actually "according to Joseph"?...or did you mean to write "according to what Benjamin Johnson said Joseph said".
Citing Benjamin Johnson as claiming that Joseph said it is hardly worthy of any further discussion....unless the discussion is about you actually proving it is "according to Joseph"
Should the canonised First Vision story carry the disclaimer that it isn't what Joseph Smith said, it's just what some bloke said Joseph Smith said?

Not necessary, since Joseph Smith wrote his own account of the first vision.

That is true, but it certainly isn't the version held up and authorised by the Church as the official one. So we must consider it either a fleck of history or just Joseph putting forth his own personal opinion.

It is the official version since it is scripture!

Sorry the version Joseph wrote is not in the canon.
The second hand account of someone claiming to say what Joseph said is in the canon.

Sorry, Joseph Smith didn't write 'Joseph Smth History' in the standard works.
