Yea Nipper, the Bible is what it is, and I guess that I will have to settle for being dazzeled by that for now. However, I just wish that many here would try to begin to understand some of the things that it clearly teaches!

So this literally happened...

 6 And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand of every tribe, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the holy instruments, and the trumpets to blow in his hand.
 7 And they warred against the Midianites, as the Lord commanded Moses; and they slew all the males.
 8 And they slew the akings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword.
 9 And the children of Israel took all the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and took the spoil of all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods.
 10 And they burnt all their cities wherein they dwelt, and all their agoodly castles, with fire.
 11 And they took all the spoil, and all the prey, both of men and of beasts.
 12 And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by Jordan near Jericho.
 13 ¶And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the aprinces of the congregation, went forth to meet them without the camp.
 14 And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, with the captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, which came from the battle.
 15 And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive?
 16 Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit atrespass against the Lord in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the Lord.
 17 Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.
 18 But all the awomen children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves
.

...because God commanded it?

This was a literal historic event. You seem to overlook this part for some reason:
16 Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit atrespass against the Lord in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the Lord.
Apparently, the Midianites were plagued with venerial disease and evil beliefs that were contaminating the Hebrews. Baal was the great Canaanite fertility god, and the worship of Baal was a constant enticement for the children of Israel. The canaanites were of the same background as those oginally found at Sodom and Gomorrah --- likely a homosexual fixation connection involved as well...

Genesis 20:1-18 Abraham goes on a journey south and stays in Gernar. There Abraham once again tells a king named Abimelech the old story that Sarah is his sister. The king sees Sarah as another potential wife to add to his harem. Abimelech has a dream where God says the Abimelech is a dead man and so is his entire country, because he has taken the wife of another -- Abraham. Abimelech says he never touched Sarah and he had been told that Sarah was a sister to Abraham. God tells Abimelech that because of this He will not kill Abimelech if he sends her back and has Abraham pray for him. Abimelech asks Abraham why he lied? Abraham says that Sarah is indeed his half-sister and he feared because of Abimelech's countries ungodlyness. Abimelech gives slaves, cattle and silver to Abraham and says Abraham may live anywhere he finds it good. Abraham prays for Abimelech and fertility returns to all the women of Abimelech's country and they again have children.
Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 And Abraham journeyeth from thence toward the land of the south, and dwelleth between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourneth in Gerar;

2 and Abraham saith concerning Sarah his wife, `She is my sister;' and Abimelech king of Gerar sendeth and taketh Sarah.

3 And God cometh in unto Abimelech in a dream of the night, and saith to him, `Lo, thou [art] a dead man, because of the woman whom thou hast taken -- and she married to a husband.'

4 And Abimelech hath not drawn near unto her, and he saith, `Lord, also a righteous nation dost thou slay?

5 hath not he himself said to me, She [is] my sister! and she, even she herself, said, He [is] my brother; in the integrity of my heart, and in the innocency of my hands, I have done this.'

6 And God saith unto him in the dream, `Yea, I -- I have known that in the integrity of thy heart thou hast done this, and I withhold thee, even I, from sinning against Me, therefore I have not suffered thee to come against her;

7 and now send back the man's wife, for he [is] inspired, and he doth pray for thee, and live thou; and if thou do not send back, know that dying thou dost die, thou, and all that thou hast.'

8 And Abimelech riseth early in the morning, and calleth for all his servants, and speaketh all these words in their ears; and the men fear exceedingly;

9 and Abimelech calleth for Abraham, and saith to him, `What hast thou done to us? and what have I sinned against thee, that thou hast brought upon me, and upon my kingdom, a great sin? works which are not done thou hast done with me.'

10 Abimelech also saith unto Abraham, `What hast thou seen that thou hast done this thing?'

11 And Abraham saith, `Because I said, `Surely the fear of God is not in this place, and they have slain me for the sake of my wife;

12 and also, truly she is my sister, daughter of my father, only not daughter of my mother, and she becometh my wife;

13 and it cometh to pass, when God hath caused me to wander from my father's house, that I say to her, This [is] thy kindness which thou dost with me: at every place whither we come, say of me, He [is] my brother.'

14 And Abimelech taketh sheep and oxen, and servants and handmaids, and giveth to Abraham, and sendeth back to him Sarah his wife;

15 and Abimelech saith, `Lo, my land [is] before thee, where it is good in thine eyes, dwell;'

16 and to Sarah he hath said, `Lo, I have given a thousand silverlings to thy brother; lo, it is to thee a covering of eyes, to all who are with thee;' and by all this she is reasoned with.

17 And Abraham prayeth unto God, and God healeth Abimelech and his wife, and his handmaids, and they bear:

18 for Jehovah restraining had restrained every womb of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah, Abraham's wife.

Will he rewrite it 'literally' or 'metaphorically'?

Come on Nipper, you claimed some parts were literal and some metaphorical. I want to know if you believe the story, where God commands the army of Moses to destroy those women captured who had been with a man and all the male children etc, is to be taken literally or metaphorically?

I've already gave you my answer above. You must have missed it...

Not rewrite the Bible, but explain it as I understand it.
