The Government is absolutely committed to it though and so it will, ultimately, come to a head. It did when civil unions were introduced. The Government is selling the position that it is a Civil Marriage that they are advocating and Religions will still have autonomy on Religious Marriage.
On a personal basis, I am a bit of a liberal by nature, so I can't say that I'm against what the Government is seeking to do.
Isn't the "Conservative" Party in England still about as liberal as American Democrats?
Whatever appears to be against the Book of Mormon is going to be overturned at some time in the future. So we can be pretty open minded.-charity 3/7/07

They are more liberal than they used to be, or want be, but the arranged marriage with the Lib Democrats means they have to make concessions. Arguably the country gets a better governance as a result.

Come on sub, I can't let you away with 'everyone else'. Who, specifically is covered in number 2 - Single Mums; Single Dads; Uncles & Aunts; Neighbours; Catholic Priests; Mormon Scout Masters; Warren Jeffs?

within the bounds of my previously stated "all else being equal" (which obviously will exclude Jeffs), everyone else means just that...everyone else. (though arguably one could put lesbian parents at #2, but gay parents still must stay at #4 - though both are still at risk from the previously mentioned and alleged "social injustice" that so many claim is a "plague upon us")

If the 'social injustice' were to magically disappear how would the pecking order then look?

thanks for popping up Buffalot...perhaps you would care to read the thread, pretty sure we covered this...but thanks for contributing....better late than never, right?
If you were aware of the facts, why did you post that pecking order, Simon?

as i said, the lesbian parents would have a good argument for #2, but there are still a few issues to ascertain, such as the effects on gender identity and influence on relationship behavior. Gay parents would likely stay in same location....too many cards still stacked against them. Ultimately, i speculate, that the more data becomes available the more we will discover the psychological inadequacies of the LGBT impact children and how overwhelming the benefits are (still are) to have opposite sex parents.

the facts support my pecking order, generally speaking....though i admit it is just my own unfounded speculation about the bacon scenario.
