Job 42:1-17 Then Job answered the Lord saying:

"I know that you can do anything, and your intentions cannot be hindered.

Who hides counsel with ignorance? I spoke, but didn't understand --- such things being way over my head.

Please listen while I question you, and you tell me the answers.

Second handedly I had heard of you, but now my eyes have witnessed you.

Therefore I cast aside what I've been saying, and repent in dust and ashes."

So now after the Lord and Job spoke, the Lord said with Eliphaz the Temanite, “I am really upset with you and your two friends! You have not spoken correctly regarding me, as did my servant Job.

So now take 7 bulls and 7 rams, and go to my servant Job, and sacrifice a burnt offering for yourselves, and let my servant Job pray for you. For him I will show favor, and not punish your nonsense, for you have not spoken correctly regarding me, as has my servant Job.”

Then Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite, did as the Lord had commanded them. The Lord showed favor to Job.

The Lord also restored Job's prosperity, after he had prayed for his friends; the Lord provided Job with twice as much as he had before.

All his brothers and sisters came to him, and all his former acquaintances, and they dined with him in his house. They consoled and comforted him for all the evil the Lord had brought upon him, and each one gave him one kesitah (a piece of money that was likely cast in the shape of a lamb) and a gold ring.

The Lord blessed the later days of Job more than his earlier ones. He had 14000 sheep, 6000 camels, 1000 pairs of oxen, and a 1000 she-donkeys.

He also had another 7 sons and 3 daughters: the 1st daughter he called Jemimah (means DOVE), the 2nd Keziah (means CINNAMON) , and the 3rd Keren-happuch (means EYE SHADOW).

In all the land no other women were as beautiful as the daughters of Job; and their father gave them an inheritance as he did their brothers.

Job lived a 140 years; and he saw his children, his grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren. Job died, old and content.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 And Job answereth Jehovah and saith: --

2 Thou hast known that [for] all things Thou art able, And not withheld from Thee is [any] device:

3 `Who [is] this, hiding counsel without knowledge?' Therefore, I have declared, and understand not, Too wonderful for me, and I know not.

4 `Hear, I pray thee, and I -- I do speak, I ask thee, and cause thou me to know.'

5 By the hearing of the ear I heard Thee, And now mine eye hath seen Thee.

6 Therefore do I loathe [it], And I have repented on dust and ashes.

7 And it cometh to pass after Jehovah's speaking these words unto Job, that Jehovah saith unto Eliphaz the Temanite, `Burned hath Mine anger against thee, and against thy two friends, because ye have not spoken concerning Me rightly, like My servant Job.

8 And now, take to you seven bullocks and seven rams, and go ye unto My servant Job, and ye have caused a burnt-offering to ascend for you; and Job My servant doth pray for you, for surely his face I accept, so as not to do with you folly, because ye have not spoken concerning Me rightly, like My servant Job.

9 And they go -- Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, Zophar the Naamathite -- and do as Jehovah hath spoken unto them; and Jehovah doth accept the face of Job.

10 And Jehovah hath turned [to] the captivity of Job in his praying for his friends, and Jehovah doth add [to] all that Job hath -- to double.

11 And come unto him do all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all his former acquaintances, and they eat bread with him in his house, and bemoan him, and comfort him concerning all the evil that Jehovah had brought upon him, and they gave to him each one kesitah, and each one ring of gold.

12 And Jehovah hath blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning, and he hath fourteen thousand of a flock, and six thousand camels, and a thousand pairs of oxen, and a thousand she-asses.

13 And he hath seven sons and three daughters;

14 and he calleth the name of the one Jemima, and the name of the second Kezia, and the name of the third Keren-Happuch.

15 And there have not been found women fair as the daughters of Job in all the land, and their father doth give to them an inheritance in the midst of their brethren.

16 And Job liveth after this a hundred and forty years, and seeth his sons, and his sons' sons, four generations;

17 and Job dieth, aged and satisfied [with] days.

It is worth noting that God had nothing to say concerning the young Elihu. And it is likely that he (though young in years) was right on target.

Well, now we begin the book of Hymns or Psalms. It seems that 73 Psalms are at least attributed to David. If he didn't write them they could have been written at his request. I believe them to be ALL inspired no matter who actually inscribed them. However, I believe that David did in fact write many if not all at the moving of the Holy Spirit. Some of these songs, I believe reflect various times and incidences ---- as do various hymns that are written today. And everyone seems to like if not love the 23rd Psalm for various reasons.

Psalm 1: 1-6
Blessed is the man who does not live according to the recommendations of the ungodly, nor takes a stand for the ways of sinners, nor behaves as do those who jeer; but he enjoys the law of the Lord, and meditates on it whenever possible.

He will be like a fruit tree planted by a nice dependable flowing stream, that brings forth fruit in due course. Its leafs will not wither, and his growth will be prosperous.

Unlike the ungodly who are like the chaff which the wind blows away.

The ungodly will not be able to remain standing during their judgment, nor will the unredeemed among the gathering of the saved.

The Lord knows the ultimate direction of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly will be terminated.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 O the happiness of that one, who Hath not walked in the counsel of the wicked. And in the way of sinners hath not stood, And in the seat of scorners hath not sat;

2 But -- in the law of Jehovah [is] his delight, And in His law he doth meditate by day and by night:

3 And he hath been as a tree, Planted by rivulets of water, That giveth its fruit in its season, And its leaf doth not wither, And all that he doth he causeth to prosper.

4 Not so the wicked: But -- as chaff that wind driveth away!

5 Therefore the wicked rise not in judgment, Nor sinners in the company of the righteous,

6 For Jehovah is knowing the way of the righteous, And the way of the wicked is lost!

Psalm 2:1-12
Why do the nations rebel and the peoples plot vainly?

The rulers of the earth take their stand, and united conspire together against the Lord and Messiah and say “Let us throw away their control and free ourselves from bondage to them!”

The God in heaven laughs; the Lord torments them.

Then He communicates to them with anger and terrifies them with His wrath:

“I have dedicated My King on Zion, My holy mountain.”

I will declare what the Lord dictates: He informed Me, “You are My Son; today I have become Your Father.

Ask of Me, and I will make the nations Yours and the entire earth Yours to have.

You will govern them with a rod of iron; You will shatter them like pottery.”

At this time rulers, be wise; receive instruction ---- judges of the earth.

Serve the Lord respectfully and rejoice with trembling.

Pay homage to the Messiah or He maybe angered and you'll lose direction. Those taking refuge in Him are happy.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 Why have nations tumultuously assembled? And do peoples meditate vanity?

2 Station themselves do kings of the earth, And princes have been united together, Against Jehovah, and against His Messiah:

3 `Let us draw off Their cords, And cast from us Their thick bands.'

4 He who is sitting in the heavens doth laugh, The Lord doth mock at them.

5 Then doth He speak unto them in His anger, And in His wrath He doth trouble them:

6 `And I -- I have anointed My King, Upon Zion -- My holy hill.'

7 I declare concerning a statute: Jehovah said unto me, `My Son Thou [art], I to-day have brought thee forth.

8 Ask of Me and I give nations -- thy inheritance, And thy possession -- the ends of earth.

9 Thou dost rule them with a sceptre of iron, As a vessel of a potter Thou dost crush them.'

10 And now, O kings, act wisely, Be instructed, O judges of earth,

11 Serve ye Jehovah with fear, And rejoice with trembling.

12 Kiss the Chosen One, lest He be angry, And ye lose the way, When His anger burneth but a little, O the happiness of all trusting in Him!

Psalm 3:1-8

A song of David when retreating from his son Absalom.

Lord, I have lots of enemies!
Many people are turning against me!

Many are saying regarding me,
“God will not save him.” Forever!

Lord, you are as a shield that covers me.
You bring me honor. You help me win the battle.

I cry to the Lord.
He answers me from his holy hill (Jerusalem). Always!

I lie down and sleep.
I waken again, because the Lord protects me.

I will not fear though 10,000
attack me all around.

Lord, rise up!
My God, save me!
You have smacked all my enemies in the face.
And have taken the bite from sinful people.

Lord, you alone save.
Bless your people. Forever!

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 A Psalm of David, in his fleeing from the face of Absalom his son.

Jehovah, how have my distresses multiplied! Many are rising up against me.

2 Many are saying of my soul, `There is no salvation for him in God.' Selah.

3 And Thou, O Jehovah, [art] a shield for me, My honour, and lifter up of my head.

4 My voice [is] unto Jehovah: I call: And He answereth me from his holy hill, Selah.

5 I -- I have lain down, and I sleep, I have waked, for Jehovah sustaineth me.

6 I am not afraid of myriads of people, That round about they have set against me.

7 Rise, O Jehovah! save me, my God. Because Thou hast smitten All mine enemies [on] the cheek. The teeth of the wicked Thou hast broken.

8 Of Jehovah [is] this salvation; On Thy people [is] Thy blessing! Selah.

Psalm 4:1-8
Communicate to me when I call out to you,
my God who makes me righteous.

Give me relief in times of fear;
have mercy on me and hear me speak.

How long will you people distort my glory into shame?
How long will you embrace delusions and seek after lies? Always!

Understand that the Lord has separated his faithful servant to himself;
the Lord knows when I speak to him.

Shake in fright and refrain from sin;
when you are in bed,
search your hearts silently. Always!

Offer gifts of the righteous and trust in the Lord.

Many, Lord, are asking, “Who brings us goodness?”
Let your radiance brighten us.

My heart fills with joy when their grain and new wine prospers.

In peace I will lie down and slumber,
for only you, Lord, allow me to live in safety.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 To the Overseer with Stringed Instruments. -- A Psalm of David.

In my calling answer Thou me, O God of my righteousness. In adversity Thou gavest enlargement to me; Favour me, and hear my prayer.

2 Sons of men! till when [is] my glory for shame? Ye love a vain thing, ye seek a lie. Selah.

3 And know ye that Jehovah Hath separated a saintly one to Himself. Jehovah heareth in my calling to Him.

4 `Tremble ye, and do not sin;' Say ye [thus] in your heart on your bed, And be ye silent. Selah.

5 Sacrifice ye sacrifices of righteousness, And trust ye unto Jehovah.

6 Many are saying, `Who doth show us good?' Lift on us the light of Thy face, O Jehovah,

7 Thou hast given joy in my heart, From the time their corn and their wine Have been multiplied.

8 In peace together I lie down and sleep, For Thou, O Jehovah, alone, In confidence dost cause me to dwell!

Psalm 5:1-12 For the choir director; Inheritance ; a psalm by David.

Hear what I say, O Lord.
Consider my pondering.

Pay attention to my cry for help, my king and God,
because regularly I pray often only to you .

At daybreak, O Lord, hear my plea.
In the morning I lay my needs before you, and I wait.

You are not a God who enjoys wickedness.
Evil is not part of your composition.

Braggers cannot stand in your sight. You despise troublemakers.

You destroy liars.
The Lord is disgusted by bloodthirsty and deceitful people.

But I enter your house because of your great mercy.
Out of reverence for you, I will bow toward your holy temple.

O Lord, lead me in your righteousness because of those watching me.
Make your way in front of me obvious.

Nothing in their mouths is honest.
Destruction originates from their hearts.
Their throats are open graves.
They tongues flatter.

Condemn them, O God.
Let their own schemes cause them to fall.
Throw them out for their crimes because they have rebelled against you.

But let all who take refuge in you rejoice.
Let them sing with joy eternally.
Protect them, and let those who love your name triumph through you.

You bless righteous people, O Lord.
Like a large shield, you surround them with favor.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 To the Overseer, `Concerning the Inheritances.' -- A Psalm of David. My sayings hear, O Jehovah, Consider my meditation.

2 Be attentive to the voice of my cry, My king and my God, For unto Thee I pray habitually.

3 Jehovah, [at] morning Thou hearest my voice, [At] morning I set in array for Thee, And I look out.

4 For not a God desiring wickedness [art] Thou, Evil inhabiteth Thee not.

5 The boastful station not themselves before Thine eyes: Thou hast hated all working iniquity.

6 Thou destroyest those speaking lies, A man of blood and deceit Jehovah doth abominate.

7 And I, in the abundance of Thy kindness, I enter Thy house, I bow myself toward Thy holy temple in Thy fear.

8 O Jehovah, lead me in Thy righteousness, Because of those observing me, Make straight before me Thy way,

9 For there is no stability in their mouth. Their heart [is] mischiefs, An open grave [is] their throat, Their tongue they make smooth.

10 Declare them guilty, O God, Let them fall from their own counsels, In the abundance of their transgressions Drive them away, Because they have rebelled against Thee.

11 And rejoice do all trusting in Thee, To the age they sing, and Thou coverest them over, And those loving Thy name exult in Thee.

12 For Thou blessest the righteous, O Jehovah, As a buckler with favour dost compass him!

Psalm 6:1-10 For the music director. Accompanied by stringed instruments - high octave. A psalm of David.

Lord, do not scold me in anger or discipline me in wrath.

Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am weak;
heal me, Lord, for my bones ache.

My soul is in terrible anguish.
For how long, Lord?

Come back, Lord, and deliver me;
save me because of your unfailing kindness.

Among the dead no one proclaims your name.
Who will praise you in the grave?

I am exhausted from groaning.
All night long in bed I weep and ruin my couch with tears.

My eyes grow weak with sorrow;
they fail because of so many foes.

Get away, all you who do evil ---- the Lord has heard my cry.

The Lord has heard me plead for mercy and accepts my prayer.

All my enemies will be overwhelmed with humiliation and anguish;
they will go away suddenly in shame.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 To the Overseer with stringed instruments, on the octave. -- A Psalm of David.

O Jehovah, in Thine anger reprove me not, Nor in Thy fury chastise me.

2 Favour me, O Jehovah, for I [am] weak, Heal me, O Jehovah, For troubled have been my bones,

3 And my soul hath been troubled greatly, And Thou, O Jehovah, till when?

4 Turn back, O Jehovah, draw out my soul, Save me for Thy kindness' sake.

5 For there is not in death Thy memorial, In Sheol, who doth give thanks to Thee?

6 I have been weary with my sighing, I meditate through all the night [on] my bed, With my tear my couch I waste.

7 Old from provocation is mine eye, It is old because of all mine adversaries,

8 Turn from me all ye workers of iniquity, For Jehovah heard the voice of my weeping,

9 Jehovah hath heard my supplication, Jehovah my prayer receiveth.

10 Ashamed and troubled greatly are all mine enemies, They turn back -- ashamed [in] a moment!

Psalm 7:1-17 A psalm of David, which he sang to the Lord concerning Cush of the tribe of Benjamin.

I trust in you, O Lord.
Save me from my persecutors—rescue me!

If you don’t, they will maul me like a lion, ripping me to shreds with no one to rescue me.

O Lord my God, if I have done wrong or am guilty of injustice,

if I have betrayed a friend or selected my enemy without cause,

allow my enemies to capture me.
Let them ground me into the dirt and drag my honor in the dust. Forever!

Arise, O Lord, angrily!
Stand up against the fury of my enemies!
Awaken, my God, and bring justice!

Gather the nations around you.
Rule them from above.

The Lord judges the nations.
Declare me righteous, O Lord, for I am honest, Lord!

Stop the evil of those who are wicked --- defend the righteous.
You examine deeply the mind and heart, righteous God.

God is my shield, saving those whose hearts are honest and correct.

God is an honest judge.
He is angered by the wicked every day.

If a person does not repent, God will sharpen his sword; he will bend and string his bow.

He will prepare deadly weapons and shoot flaming arrows.

The wicked devise evil; they are filled with trouble and give birth to lies.

They dig a hole to ensnare others, then tumble into it themselves.

The trouble they make for others backfires on them.
The violence they plan lands on their own heads.

I thank the Lord because he's just; I sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 `The Erring One,' by David, that he sung to Jehovah concerning the words of Cush a Benjamite.

O Jehovah, my God, in Thee I have trusted, Save me from all my pursuers, and deliver me.

2 Lest he tear as a lion my soul, Rending, and there is no deliverer.

3 O Jehovah, my God, if I have done this, If there is iniquity in my hands,

4 If I have done my well-wisher evil, And draw mine adversary without cause,

5 An enemy pursueth my soul, and overtaketh, And treadeth down to the earth my life, And my honour placeth in the dust. Selah.

6 Rise, O Jehovah, in Thine anger, Be lifted up at the wrath of mine adversaries, And awake Thou for me: Judgment Thou hast commanded:

7 And a company of peoples compass Thee, And over it on high turn Thou back,

8 Jehovah doth judge the peoples; Judge me, O Jehovah, According to my righteousness, And according to mine integrity on me,

9 Let, I pray Thee be ended the evil of the wicked, And establish Thou the righteous, And a trier of hearts and reins is the righteous God.

10 My shield [is] on God, Saviour of the upright in heart!

11 God [is] a righteous judge, And He is not angry at all times.

12 If [one] turn not, His sword he sharpeneth, His bow he hath trodden -- He prepareth it,

13 Yea, for him He hath prepared Instruments of death, His arrows for burning pursuers He maketh.

14 Lo, he travaileth [with] iniquity, And he hath conceived perverseness, And hath brought forth falsehood.

15 A pit he hath prepared, and he diggeth it, And he falleth into a ditch he maketh.

16 Return doth his perverseness on his head, And on his crown his violence cometh down.

17 I thank Jehovah, According to His righteousness, And praise the name of Jehovah Most High!

Psalm 8:1-9 For the director of music. To play on the gittith (possibly an ancient musical instrument of Gath.) A psalm of David.

Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have established your glory through the heavens.

Through the praise of children and infants you have set up a stronghold against your enemies, to stifle the foe and the vigilante.

When I think of your heavens, the artistry of your fingers, the moon and stars, which you have brought about,

what is mankind that you are aware of them, humanity that you critique them?

You have created man a little lower than the heavenly host and crowned them with glory and honor.

You made humans rulers over the creations of your hands;
you put everything to their manipulation:

all flocks and herds, and the wild animals,

the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea, all that swim the circulating currants of the seas.

Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 To the Overseer, `On the Gittith.' A Psalm of David. Jehovah, our Lord, How honourable Thy name in all the earth! Who settest thine honour on the heavens.

2 From the mouths of infants and sucklings Thou hast founded strength, Because of Thine adversaries, To still an enemy and a self-avenger.

3 For I see Thy heavens, a work of Thy fingers, Moon and stars that Thou didst establish.

4 What [is] man that Thou rememberest him? The son of man that Thou inspectest him?

5 And causest him to lack a little of Godhead, And with honour and majesty compassest him.

6 Thou dost cause him to rule Over the works of Thy hands, All Thou hast placed under his feet.

7 Sheep and oxen, all of them, And also beasts of the field,

8 Bird of the heavens, and fish of the sea, Passing through the paths of the seas!

9 Jehovah, our Lord, How honourable Thy name in all the earth!
