Yea, that's what I guessed, Albion. You are one of those ignorant evangelicals who somehow has perverted the the teachings of Christ concerning salvation to merely walking down the isle and making a profession of faith and being saved forever! However, Christ's words state; "If thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments." Of course, without His grace and atonement, none of us could be saved. However, that does not exempt us from keeping the commandment if we wish to inherit eternal life. We must also , as Christ stated; "endure to the end." There is sop much evidence of the Mormon doctrines in the New Testament, but there are absolutely no "alter calls" there!

Here is an example of something you should have quoted the source. Now I don't really care either way, but this quote does not say keeping the commandments are necessary for eternal life.

I learned back on my mission that the Bible is very easy to interpret any way you want, and we all do just that.

There you go again gdemetz.....name calling again. Clearly, you do not understand, or blindly ignore, the Christian position on saved by grace choosing to believe that Christians believe that being saved by grace gives them a licence to do as they please after. Salvation by grace alone, clearly taught throughout scripture and very heavily in Romans, perhaps Paul's deepest doctrinal epistle, does take place in an instant... but here's the important part that you clearly miss...THE LIFE LIVED AFTER RECEIVING THE GIFT OF SALVATION DEMONSTRATES THE SAVING GRACE THAT HAS TAKEN PLACE IN THE BELIEVER. Rules, regulations, churches never saved anyone....only Jesus saves and it is by God's grace through him. There is no greater demonstration of God's grace than that which is exemplified in his Son. To paraphrase...if salvation could come through rules and regulations, Jesus died in vain. I think you are so caught up in the ever shifting smoke of Mormon theology and the seeming power you think it gives you, you miss the clear and simple teaching of Jesus. "But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." Romans 3:21-24 NIV. You have a right to disagree with me but please when you try to state the Christian position at least get it right.

Albion, you finally got a few things correct. I almost collapsed! However, these ordinances also are necessary for salvation, for example baptism.

"Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:" Matthew 28:19

"He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned." Mark 16:16

"But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him." Luke 7:30

The true restored church of Christ is doing exactly what Christ instructed us to do as recorded in Matthew 28:19!

On and on gdemetz goes, blithely ignoring points made to him. Why was I so foolish as to expect even a mild admission that he was wrong on his characterization of Christian belief.

I would give up Albion. There are quite a few other people on this forum that are interesting to talk to because they challenge your views or offer new insights and make you think.

You may be right, Tobin. My experience of the Mormon Church is that there are people like gdemetz in almost every ward. They are usually the ones who get up in every meeting and expound their "iron rod", know it all position to all and sundry as if from on high. Often, they are not generally liked but only tolerated, even within their own circles.

That's a dead on observation. There are a lot of Mormons that truly believe that the LDS Church is the only true Church and whatever they teach must be the truth. That is ridiculous. God alone has and knows the truth and no association of believers (which is basically what a church is) could possibly know all of God's truth nor teach it. You have to get that truth from God through his words to mankind and it certainly isn't possible to even begin to comprehend all that truth with our limited minds and in the short time we live.

The problem with Mormons like gdemetz is they have stopped learning that truth because they believe that they alone have all of it. I feel sorry for them because every day I learn something new about God and am struck with wonder at God. If you aren't teachable and willing to listen to the Lord, study his words, and listen to others that also believe - you can't progress or grow closer to God.

You are the one ignoring me Albion! I have given you Biblical quotes to shoot down your false doctrines! What can you say about those quotes? Maybe nothing because they show you were wrong! "Faith without WORKS is dead."

Oh, you did acknowledge that you were wrong in your characterization of Christian belief? Where, did I miss it? Apparently by this latest quote you didn't even understand what I said so why would I be foolish enough to expect such an acknowledgement....?
