I may have to go there.
Knaresborough is beautiful (I've been there a couple of times)! Mother Shipton was a pretty interesting old gal, as well. At least as good a prophet as Joe Smith.
Psalm 34:1-22 A Song of David when he pretended to be crazy before Abimelech, who drove him away.
I will bless the Lord always continually by my mouth.
My soul will boast in the Lord. The humble will listen and rejoice.
Glorify the Lord with me, and let's exalt His name together.
I sought the Lord, and He answered me --- delivering me from all my terror.
They looked to Him and glowed --- their faces unashamed forever.
This poor person yelled, and the Lord heard him. And saved him from his troubles.
The angel of the Lord does guard duty around those who respect Him, and rescues them.
Try and realize that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who security is in Him!
Respect the Lord, Saints; because those who respect Him are not needy.
Young lions lack and suffer hunger; but they who seek the Lord shall not be needy of good things.
Come, children, listen to me; I will teach you respect for the Lord.
Who is the man who cares for life, and loves living long that he may see good?
Don't say evil things or be speaking deceitful.
Run from evil and do good. Seek peace and aim for it.
The eyes of the Lord focus on the righteous and listens for their cry.
Lord moves against evildoers, to irradiate their memory from the earth.
The righteous cry, and the Lord hears and carries them away from their troubles.
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and rescues those spiritually crushed.
The justified have lots of problems. The Lord delivers Him from them all.
He keeps all his bones, not one of them is broken. (This of course reflects the Messiah)
Evil shall kill the wicked, and those who hate the righteous are condemned.
The Lord redeems the soul of His servants --- none of those who seek protection through Him are condemned.
Young's Literal Translation (YLT)
1 By David, in his changing his behaviour before Abimelech, and he driveth him away, and he goeth. I do bless Jehovah at all times, Continually His praise [is] in my mouth.
2 In Jehovah doth my soul boast herself, Hear do the humble and rejoice.
3 Ascribe ye greatness to Jehovah with me, And we exalt His name together.
4 I sought Jehovah, and He answered me, And from all my fears did deliver me.
5 They looked expectingly unto Him, And they became bright, And their faces are not ashamed.
6 This poor [one] called, and Jehovah heard, And from all his distresses saved him.
7 A messenger of Jehovah is encamping, Round about those who fear Him, And He armeth them.
8 Taste ye and see that Jehovah [is] good, O the happiness of the man who trusteth in Him.
9 Fear Jehovah, ye His holy ones, For there is no lack to those fearing Him.
10 Young lions have lacked and been hungry, And those seeking Jehovah lack not any good,
11 Come ye, children, hearken to me, The fear of Jehovah I do teach you.
12 Who [is] the man that is desiring life? Loving days to see good?
13 Keep thy tongue from evil, And thy lips from speaking deceit.
14 Turn aside from evil and do good, Seek peace and pursue it.
15 The eyes of Jehovah [are] unto the righteous, And His ears unto their cry.
16 (The face of Jehovah [is] on doers of evil, To cut off from earth their memorial.)
17 They cried, and Jehovah heard, And from all their distresses delivered them.
18 Near [is] Jehovah to the broken of heart, And the bruised of spirit He saveth.
19 Many [are] the evils of the righteous, Out of them all doth Jehovah deliver him.
20 He is keeping all his bones, One of them hath not been broken.
21 Evil doth put to death the wicked, And those hating the righteous are desolate.
22 Jehovah redeemeth the soul of His servants, And none trusting in Him are desolate!

I wonder if this signals the end of the fossil discussion, or just an abridgment of it?
Actually I thought Nippers quote was appropriate. Perhaps because I see that scripture as making more sense than the goofy idea that natural disasters are all Gods judgements on some poor saps.
Perhaps the Romans passage is a bit richer in context where in creation waits in eager expectation of the appearance of the sons of God.
As a uniformatarian I would like to point out how important it is to keep in mind that the speed of different events can vary considerably. In some situations rock can form quickly. Water dripping in caves forms new rock at a speed which can be obsereved. I have seen a tea pot used for spring water rich in minerals which turned to solid rock in a years time. Lava can appear liquid and become rock in a short time.
On the other hand there is in Eastern Washington layer upon layer of deposits from the great ice age floods which though looking like sedimentary rocks at a quick glance have not yet turned into rock. They are loose sand and gravels. There is no indication that they are turning into rock any time soon.
So what is it that turned all the sedimentary rock in the world into rock?
Erosion is the other of the two basic geological processes (making rocks and breaking down rocks ). Sometimes it is quick sometimes slower. The rate of erosion by water depends upon the amount of water, speed of the water and the hardness of the material. Being a trout fisherman I have observed gravels and rocks being washed away each year with a high water. These things can be eroded in a very short time. Solid rock is something different.
I can think of a small pool in a fast portion of a mountain stream which I have observed over some forty years. pebbles stones and even boulders have moved through the pool pushed by high spring waters . There are outcrops of bedrock in the pool. They have remained unchanged.

Good points, Huckelberry. No modern geologist claims that uniformitarianism explains all geological features that we observe. That is, not all geological events proceed at a glacially slow rate, and certainly not at the same rate. There have always been and still are certain geological events and formations that happen extremely rapidly and even catastrophically. Strict and exclusive uniformitarianism and strict and exclusive catastrophism are equally wrong and irrational. It is a malicious lie that one can't both believe in a geologically ancient earth and be a good Christian at the same time. After all, both Hutton and Lyell were deeply religious Christians.
No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

I am of the opinion that Lyell was anything but a Christian. At the best Hutton was a Deist,
