Exodus 5:1-23 So after dealing with Israel’s leaders, Moses and Aaron went and spoke to Pharaoh. They told him that the Lord, the God of Israel, wants his people to go so they may hold a festival for God in the wilderness. Pharaoh says who is the Lord and why should he listen to him and let Israel go? Pharaoh doesn't know the Lord, and will not let Israel go. Aaron and Moses persist that the God of the Hebrews has met with them and to let them take a three-day journey into the wilderness so they can offer sacrifices to the Lord God. If not, God will send a plague or the sword to kill the Hewbrews.
Pharaoh replied to Moses and Aaron, asking why are they distracting the people from their work? They need to get back to work! That same day Pharaoh sent an order to the Egyptian slave drivers and the Israelite foremen to not supply any more straw for making bricks. Make the people get it themselves. But the Hebrews are still required to make the same number of bricks as before. The quota is not reduced. They are lazy. That’s why they are crying out about offering sacrifices to God. Load them down with more work. Make them sweat and that will teach them to listen to lies! The slave drivers and foremen went out and told the people, And so the people scattered throughout the land of Egypt in search of stubble to use as straw. Meanwhile, the Egyptian slave drivers continued to push hard to meet the daily quota of bricks.Then they whipped the Israelite foremen they had put in charge of the work crews because they haven't met the quotas from one day to the next. The Israelite foremen went to Pharaoh and pleaded with him asking not to be mistreated. They say they are given no straw. The slave drivers still demand, bricks and they are being beaten. It isn’t their fault! But Pharaoh shouted, that they are just lazy! That’s why they are saying that they want to go and offer sacrifices to the Lord. They need to get back to work, and no straw will be provided. They must still produce the full quota of bricks.The Israelite foremen could see that they were in serious trouble. As they leavre Pharaoh’s court, they confronted Moses and Aaron, who were waiting outside for them. The foremen said to them, that may the Lord judge and punish Moses & Aaron for making them stink before Pharaoh and his officials, and have put a sword into their hands, an excuse to kill the Hewbrews. Moses went back to the Lord and protested as to why has God brought all this trouble on His own people, and why did God even send Moses? Moses sees that Pharaoh has become even more brutal since Moses became God's spokesman. And God seems not to be doing anything.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 And afterwards have Moses and Aaron entered, and they say unto Pharaoh, `Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, Send My people away, and they keep a feast to Me in the wilderness;'

2 and Pharaoh saith, `Who [is] Jehovah, that I hearken to His voice, to send Israel away? I have not known Jehovah, and Israel also I do not send away.'

3 And they say, `The God of the Hebrews hath met with us, let us go, we pray thee, a journey of three days into the wilderness, and we sacrifice to Jehovah our God, lest He meet us with pestilence or with sword.'

4 And the king of Egypt saith unto them, `Why, Moses and Aaron, do ye free the people from its works? go to your burdens.'

5 Pharaoh also saith, `Lo, numerous now [is] the people of the land, and ye have caused them to cease from their burdens!'

6 And Pharaoh commandeth, on that day, the exactors among the people and its authorities, saying,

7 `Ye do not add to give straw to the people for the making of the bricks, as heretofore -- they go and have gathered straw for themselves;

8 and the proper quantity of the bricks which they are making heretofore ye do put on them, ye do not diminish from it, for they are remiss, therefore they are crying, saying, Let us go, let us sacrifice to our God;

9 let the service be heavy on the men, and let them work at it, and not be dazzled by lying words.'

10 And the exactors of the people, and its authorities, go out, and speak unto the people, saying, `Thus said Pharaoh, I do not give you straw,

11 ye -- go ye, take for yourselves straw where ye find [it], for there is nothing of your service diminished.'

12 And the people is scattered over all the land of Egypt, to gather stubble for straw,

13 and the exactors are making haste, saying, `Complete your works, the matter of a day in its day, as when there is straw.'

14 And the authorities of the sons of Israel, whom the exactors of Pharaoh have placed over them, are beaten, saying, `Wherefore have ye not completed your portion in making brick as heretofore, both yesterday and to-day?'

15 And the authorities of the sons of Israel come in and cry unto Pharaoh, saying, `Why dost thou thus to thy servants?

16 Straw is not given to thy servants, and they are saying to us, Make bricks, and lo, thy servants are smitten -- and thy people hath sinned.'

17 And he saith, `Remiss -- ye are remiss, therefore ye are saying, Let us go, let us sacrifice to Jehovah;

18 and now, go, serve; and straw is not given to you, and the measure of bricks ye do give.'

19 And the authorities of the sons of Israel see them in affliction, saying, `Ye do not diminish from your bricks; the matter of a day in its day.'

20 And they meet Moses and Aaron standing to meet them, in their coming out from Pharaoh,

21 and say unto them, `Jehovah look upon you, and judge, because ye have caused our fragrance to stink in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants -- to give a sword into their hand to slay us.'

22 And Moses turneth back unto Jehovah, and saith, `Lord, why hast Thou done evil to this people? why [is] this? -- Thou hast sent me!

23 and since I have come unto Pharaoh, to speak in Thy name, he hath done evil to this people, and Thou hast not at all delivered Thy people.'

Exodus 6:1-30 Then the Lord told Moses that he will see what God will do to Pharaoh. When Pharaoh feels the force of God's strong hand, Pharoah will let the people go. In fact, he will force them to leave his land. God informs Moses, That He is Yahweh! He appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as El-Shaddai—‘God Almighty'. However God did not reveal his name, Yahweh, to them. God reaffirmed his covenant with them. Under its terms, God promised to give them the land of Canaan, where they were living as foreigners. Moses is assured that God has heard the groans of the people of Israel, who are now slaves to the Egyptians. And God fully understands His covenant with them. Moses is to say to the people of Israel, that God will free them from their oppression and will rescue them from Egyptian slavery. God will redeem with power and great acts of judgment. God claims Israel as His own, and He will be their God. They will then understand that it was God who freed them Egyptian oppression. God will bring them into the land sworen to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to be their very own possession. So says the Lord! Moses tells the people of Israel what the Lord had said, but they refused to listen, becoming very discouraged by the brutality of their captivity. The Lord tells Moses to return to Pharaoh, and tell him to let the people of Israel leave his country. Moses objects and says his own people won’t listen to him anymore. How can he expect Pharaoh to listen to such a clumsy speaker! The Lord speaks to Moses and Aaron and gives them orders for the Israelites and for Pharaoh. Moses and Aaron are commanded to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt.

The Ancestors of Moses and Aaron
These are the ancestors of some of the clans of Israel:

The sons of Reuben, Israel’s oldest son, were Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi. Their descendants became the clans of Reuben.

The sons of Simeon were Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar, and Shaul (whose mother was Canaanite). Their descendants became the clans of Simeon.

These are the descendants of Levi (lived 137 years), as listed in their family records: The sons of Levi were Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

The descendants of Gershon included Libni and Shimei, each of whom became the ancestor of a clan.

The descendants of Kohath (lived 133 years) included Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.

The descendants of Merari included Mahli and Mushi.

These are the clans of the Levites, as listed in their family records.

Amram (who lived 137 years) married his father’s sister Jochebed, and she gave birth to his sons, Aaron and Moses.

The sons of Izhar were Korah, Nepheg, and Zicri.

The sons of Uzziel were Mishael, Elzaphan, and Sithri.

Aaron married Elisheba, the daughter of Amminadab and sister of Nahshon, and she gave birth to his sons, Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

The sons of Korah were Assir, Elkanah, and Abiasaph. Their descendants became the clans of Korah.

Eleazar son of Aaron married one of the daughters of Putiel, and she gave birth to his son, Phinehas.
These are the ancestors of the Levite families, listed according to clans. Aaron and Moses named in this list are the same ones to whom God told to Lead the people of Israel out of the land of Egypt as an army. They spoke to Pharoah about leading the people of Israel out of Egypt. The Lord spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt. God tells Moses that He is God! And that Moses is to inform Pharaoh of Egypt of everything. Moses argues with the Lord, and says that he cannot do such being a clumsy speaker! Why should Pharaoh listen to Moses?

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Now dost thou see that which I do to Pharaoh, for with a strong hand he doth send them away, yea, with a strong hand he doth cast them out of his land.'

2 And God speaketh unto Moses, and saith unto him, `I [am] Jehovah,

3 and I appear unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, as God Almighty; as to My name Jehovah, I have not been known to them;

4 and also I have established My covenant with them, to give to them the land of Canaan, the land of their sojournings, wherein they have sojourned;

5 and also I have heard the groaning of the sons of Israel, whom the Egyptians are causing to serve, and I remember My covenant.

6 `Therefore say to the sons of Israel, I [am] Jehovah, and I have brought you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and have delivered you from their service, and have redeemed you by a stretched-out arm, and by great judgments,

7 and have taken you to Me for a people, and I have been to you for God, and ye have known that I [am] Jehovah your God, who is bringing you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians;

8 and I have brought you in unto the land which I have lifted up My hand to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, and have given it to you -- a possession; I [am] Jehovah.'

9 And Moses speaketh so unto the sons of Israel, and they hearkened not unto Moses, for anguish of spirit, and for harsh service.

10 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

11 `Go in, speak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he doth send the sons of Israel out of his land;

12 and Moses speaketh before Jehovah, saying, `Lo, the sons of Israel have not hearkened unto me, and how doth Pharaoh hear me, and I of uncircumcised lips?'

13 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and chargeth them for the sons of Israel, and for Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring out the sons of Israel from the land of Egypt.

14 These [are] heads of the house of their fathers: Sons of Reuben first-born of Israel [are] Hanoch, and Phallu, Hezron, and Carmi: these [are] families of Reuben.

15 And sons of Simeon [are] Jemuel, and Jamin, and Ohad, and Jachin, and Zohar, and Shaul, son of the Canaanitess: these [are] families of Simeon.

16 And these [are] the names of the sons of Levi, as to their births: Gershon, and Kohath, and Merari: and the years of the life of Levi [are] a hundred and thirty and seven years.

17 The sons of Gershon [are] Libni, and Shimi, as to their families.

18 And the sons of Kohath [are] Amram, and Izhar, and Hebron, and Uzziel: and the years of the life of Kohath [are] a hundred and thirty and three years.

19 And the sons of Merari [are] Mahli and Mushi: these [are] families of Levi, as to their births.

20 And Amram taketh Jochebed his aunt to himself for a wife, and she beareth to him Aaron and Moses: and the years of the life of Amram [are] a hundred and thirty and seven years.

21 And sons of Izhar [are] Korah, and Nepheg, and Zichri.

22 And sons of Uzziel [are] Mishael, and Elzaphan, and Sithri.

23 And Aaron taketh Elisheba daughter of Amminadab, sister of Naashon, to himself for a wife, and she beareth to him Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

24 And sons of Korah [are] Assir, and Elkanah, and Abiasaph: these [are] families of the Korhite.

25 And Eleazar, Aaron's son, hath taken to him [one] of the daughters of Putiel for a wife to himself, and she beareth to him Phinehas: these [are] heads of the fathers of the Levites, as to their families.

26 This [is] Aaron -- and Moses -- to whom Jehovah said, `Bring ye out the sons of Israel from the land of Egypt, by their hosts;'

27 these are they who are speaking unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring out the sons of Israel from Egypt, this [is] Moses -- and Aaron.

28 And it cometh to pass in the day of Jehovah's speaking unto Moses in the land of Egypt,

29 that Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying, `I [am] Jehovah, speak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I am speaking unto thee.'

30 And Moses saith before Jehovah, `Lo, I [am] of uncircumcised lips, and how doth Pharaoh hearken unto me?'

Exodus 7:1-25 The Lord tells Moses, that he has been made sort of as God to Pharaoh, and his brother Aaron will be as Moses' prophet. Moses must say everything the Lord commands. Aaron is to tell Pharaoh to let the Israelites go out of his country. God will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and though God increases both signs and wonders in Egypt. Pharoah will not listen. God will lay hold on Egypt and by fantastic acts of judgment will God split out his choosen people the Israelites. The Egyptians will know who is the Lord when He directs His power against Egypt and brings the Israelites out from it. Moses (age 80) and Aaron (age 83) did just as the Lord commanded them. The Lord tells them that when Pharaoh asks them to perform a miracle, Aaron is to throw down Moses' staff before Pharaoh, and it will become a snake. Moses and Aaron go to Pharaoh and do just as the Lord commanded. Aaron throws his staff down in front of Pharaoh and his officials, and it becomes a snake. Pharaoh then summons wise men and sorcerers, and the Egyptian magicians do the same things by their secret arts. Each one threw down his staff and it became a snake. But then Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs. Pharaoh’s heart became hard and he would not listen to them, just as the Lord had said. Then the Lord tells Moses to visit Pharaoh in the morning as he goes out to the Nile River bank. And Moses is to being the staff that was changed into a snake. Tell Pharaoh that The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has sent Moses to him. Let God's people go, so that they may worship. With the staff that is in Moses' hand God will strike the water of the Nile, and it will be changed into blood. The fish in the Nile will die, and the river will stink; the Egyptians will not be able to drink its water. The Lord tells Moses, to have Aaron, take the staff and stretch it over the waters of Egypt: streams, canals, ponds, all the reservoirs—and they will turn to blood. Blood will be everywhere in Egypt, even in vessels of wood and stone. Moses and Aaron do just as the Lord has commanded. He raises his staff in the presence of Pharaoh and his officials and stricks the water of the Nile, and all the water is changed into blood. The fish in the Nile die, and the river smells so bad that the Egyptians can not drink its water. Blood is everywhere in Egypt. But the Egyptian magicians do the same things by their secret arts, and Pharaoh’s heart becomes hard; he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the Lord has said. Instead, he returned to his palace, and did not take even this to heart. All the Egyptians dig along the Nile to get drinking water, because they can not drink the water of the river.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `See, I have given thee a god to Pharaoh, and Aaron thy brother is thy prophet;

2 thou -- thou dost speak all that I command thee, and Aaron thy brother doth speak unto Pharaoh, and he hath sent the sons of Israel out of his land.

3 `And I harden the heart of Pharaoh, and have multiplied My signs and My wonders in the land of Egypt,

4 and Pharaoh doth not hearken, and I have put My hand on Egypt, and have brought out My hosts, My people, the sons of Israel, from the land of Egypt by great judgments;

5 and the Egyptians have known that I [am] Jehovah, in My stretching out My hand against Egypt; and I have brought out the sons of Israel from their midst.'

6 And Moses doth -- Aaron also -- as Jehovah commanded them; so have they done;

7 and Moses [is] a son of eighty years, and Aaron [is] a son of eighty and three years, in their speaking unto Pharaoh.

8 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

9 `When Pharaoh speaketh unto you, saying, Give for yourselves a wonder; then thou hast said unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast before Pharaoh -- it becometh a monster.'

10 And Moses goeth in -- Aaron also -- unto Pharaoh, and they do so as Jehovah hath commanded; and Aaron casteth his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it becometh a monster.

11 And Pharaoh also calleth for wise men, and for sorcerers; and the scribes of Egypt, they also, with their flashings, do so,

12 and they cast down each his rod, and they become monsters, and the rod of Aaron swalloweth their rods;

13 and the heart of Pharaoh is strong, and he hath not hearkened unto them, as Jehovah hath spoken.

14 And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `The heart of Pharaoh hath been hard, he hath refused to send the people away;

15 go unto Pharaoh in the morning, lo, he is going out to the water, and thou hast stood to meet him by the edge of the River, and the rod which was turned to a serpent thou dost take in thy hand,

16 and thou hast said unto him: Jehovah, God of the Hebrews, hath sent me unto thee, saying, Send My people away, and they serve Me in the wilderness; and lo, thou hast not hearkened hitherto.

17 `Thus said Jehovah: By this thou knowest that I [am] Jehovah; lo, I am smiting with the rod which [is] in my hand, on the waters which [are] in the River, and they have been turned to blood,

18 and the fish that [are] in the River die, and the River hath stank, and the Egyptians have been wearied of drinking waters from the River.'

19 And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and stretch out thy hand against the waters of Egypt, against their streams, against their rivers, and against their ponds, and against all their collections of waters; and they are blood -- and there hath been blood in all the land of Egypt, both in [vessels of] wood, and in [those of] stone.'

20 And Moses and Aaron do so, as Jehovah hath commanded, and he lifteth up [his hand] with the rod, and smiteth the waters which [are] in the River, before the eyes of Pharaoh, and before the eyes of his servants, and all the waters which [are] in the River are turned to blood,

21 and the fish which [is] in the River hath died, and the River stinketh, and the Egyptians have not been able to drink water from the River; and the blood is in all the land of Egypt.

22 And the scribes of Egypt do so with their flashings, and the heart of Pharaoh is strong, and he hath not hearkened unto them, as Jehovah hath spoken,

23 and Pharaoh turneth and goeth in unto his house, and hath not set his heart even to this;

24 and all the Egyptians seek water round about the river to drink, for they have not been able to drink of the waters of the River.

25 And seven days are completed after Jehovah's smiting the River,

For example the pharaoh, ehhh:

LittleNipper wrote:Exodus 7:1-25 ... God will harden Pharaoh’s heart ...

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)
...
3 And I harden the heart of Pharaoh ...
4 and Pharaoh doth not hearken ...

That stupid, obstinate pharaoh...

- God hardened his heart (to not be able to hearken)
- then he didn't hearken
- then he deserved what he got

Fine.

So all the Egyptians-every single one-deserved bad drinking water? All the first borne ALL deserved death?

All the animals he has killed or had killed (and not to be eaten) all deserved it, too.

Oh, the first baby of David and Bathsheba TOTALLY deserved to be killed for the adultery of her parents. Nice!

Yep. No worries everyone! God is a mean asshole, but only to those who deserve it...which is apparently everyone!

Praise!
