Isaiah 11:1-16

Then a sprout will shoot up from the stump of Jesse, and the branch from this Jesse's roots will bear fruit.

The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him. This spirit of wisdom and understanding, of counsel and strength, of knowledge and the regard of the Lord.

And He will enjoy regarding the Lord. And He will not judge by what His sees, or make decisions by listening.

But with righteousness He will judge the poor, and decide honesty the afflicted of the earth. And He will whack the earth with the Law of His Word. And with His sayings He will slay the wicked.

Also righteousness and faithfulness are the belt about His waist.

And the wolf in that future time will reside with the lamb, the leopard will rest with the young goat; the calf, the young lion, and those being fattened up will hang together. And a little boy will shepherd them.

Also the cow and the bear will eat grass. Their young will sleep together. And the lion will eat straw like the ox does.

The little baby will play by the hole of the cobra, And the toddler will put his hand in the snake's den.

They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain. For the earth will be fully aware of the Lord, as water comprizes the sea.

Then in that time, the nations will depend to the root of Jesse, who will stand as a representation for the peoples; And His resting place will be wonderous.

Then it will happen on that day that the Lord will again recover the second time by hand the remainder of His people, left, out of Assyria, Egypt, Turkey, Africa, Iran, Iraq, Syria, and from the islands of the sea.

And He will erect a symbol for the nations and gather the banished ones of Israel and the dispersed of Judah from every part of the planet.

Then the jealousy of Ephraim will end, and those who harass Judah will be removed; Ephraim will not be jealous of Judah and visa versa.

They will swoop down on the slopes of the Philistines on the west. Together they will plunder the sons of the east. They will possess Edom and Moab. And the descendants of Ammon will be under their command.

And the Lord will totally end The Peninsula of the Sea of Egypt. and He will wave His hand over the River with His scorching wind; He will direct it onto seven streams and cause men to walk over dry-ground.

And there will be a freeway from Assyria for the remainder of His people left, just as there was for Israel. In that future time they will return out of the land of Egypt.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

11 And a rod hath come out from the stock of Jesse, And a branch from his roots is fruitful.

2 Rested on him hath the Spirit of Jehovah, The spirit of wisdom and understanding, The spirit of counsel and might, The spirit of knowledge and fear of Jehovah.

3 To refresh him in the fear of Jehovah, And by the sight of his eyes he judgeth not, Nor by the hearing of his ears decideth.

4 And he hath judged in righteousness the poor, And decided in uprightness for the humble of earth, And hath smitten earth with the rod of his mouth, And with the breath of his lips he putteth the wicked to death.

5 And righteousness hath been the girdle of his loins, And faithfulness -- the girdle of his reins.

6 And a wolf hath sojourned with a lamb, And a leopard with a kid doth lie down, And calf, and young lion, and fatling [are] together, And a little youth is leader over them.

7 And cow and bear do feed, Together lie down their young ones, And a lion as an ox eateth straw.

8 And played hath a suckling by the hole of an asp, And on the den of a cockatrice Hath the weaned one put his hand.

9 Evil they do not, nor destroy in all My holy mountain, For full hath been the earth with the knowledge of Jehovah, As the waters are covering the sea.

10 And there hath been, in that day, A root of Jesse that is standing for an ensign of peoples, Unto him do nations seek, And his rest hath been -- honour!

11 And it hath come to pass, in that day, The Lord addeth a second time his power, To get the remnant of His people that is left, From Asshur, and from Egypt, And from Pathros, and from Cush, And from Elam, and from Shinar, And from Hamath, and from isles of the sea,

12 And He hath lifted up an ensign to nations, And gathereth the driven away of Israel, And the scattered of Judah He assembleth, From the four wings of the earth.

13 And turned aside hath the envy of Ephraim, And the adversaries of Judah are cut off, Ephraim doth not envy Judah, And Judah doth not distress Ephraim.

14 And they have flown on the shoulder of the Philistines westward, Together they spoil the sons of the east, Edom and Moab sending forth their hand, And sons of Ammon obeying them.

15 And Jehovah hath devoted to destruction The tongue of the sea of Egypt, And hath waved His hand over the river, In the terror of his wind, And hath smitten it at the seven streams, And hath caused [men] to tread [it] with shoes.

16 And there hath been a highway, For the remnant of His people that is left, from Asshur, As there was for Israel in the day of his coming up out of the land of Egypt!

Isaiah 12:1-6

At this future time Israel will thank the Lord. Even though once angry, God has turned this anger away and will comfort.

God is salvation to be trusted without fear. The Lord is strength and a shield, and become salvation.

Israel will draw water with joy from salvation's spring.

And Israel will say in that future time: “Thanks Lord; call on God’s name; declare God’s deeds among the nations; declare that God’s name is exalted.

Sing to the Lord, who has done things very wondrous; spread this worldwide.”

Shout and sing for joy, Jerusalem, because the holy one of Israel is noted among you.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 And thou hast said in that day: `I thank thee, O Jehovah, Though Thou hast been angry with me, Turn back doth Thine anger, And Thou dost comfort me.

2 Lo, God [is] my salvation, I trust, and fear not, For my strength and song [is] Jah Jehovah, And He is to me for salvation.

3 And ye have drawn waters with joy Out of the fountains of salvation,

4 And ye have said in that day, Give ye praise to Jehovah, call in His name. Make known among the peoples His acts. Make mention that set on high is His name.

5 Praise ye Jehovah, for excellence He hath done, Known is this in all the earth.

6 Cry aloud, and sing, O inhabitant of Zion, For great in thy midst [is] the Holy One of Israel!'

Isaiah 13:1-22

A prophecy against Babylon that Amoz's son Isaiah envisioned:

Raise a standard on a bare hilltop, shout to them; encourage them to enter the nobles' gates.

Those who rejoice in my triumph, I prepared for battle I have summoned to carry out My wrath.

Hear a noise on the mountains, as of a great multitude! Hear an uproar among the kingdoms, like nations massing together! The Lord Almighty is readying an army for the assult.

They arrive from distant lands, from the ends of the heavens— the Lord and the weapons of his wrath—to destroy the whole country.

Cry in terror, for the day of the Lord is close; it will come like destruction from the Almighty.

Because of this, all hands will dangle, every heart will be anxious.

Terror will seize them, spasms and anguish will grip them; they will squirm like a woman in labor. They will look aghast at each other-- red faced.

Note, the day of the Lord is coming—a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger—to make ravage the land and consume the sinners there.

The stars of heaven in their constellations will not provide any light. The morning sun will be darkened and the moon will not shine.

I will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins. I will put an end to the arrogance of the snobbish and will humble the pride of the ruthless.

I will make people scarcer than the most refined gold or gold of Ophir.

Therefore I will cause the heavens to vacillate; and the earth will shake from its alignment at the wrath of the Lord Almighty, in that time of his burning anger.

Like a hunted gazelle, like sheep without a shepherd, they will all return to their own people, they will flee to their homelands.

Whoever is captured will be killed; all who are caught will be slain.

Their infants will be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses will be looted and their wives raped.

I will stir up the Medes against them, who have no care or delight in silver or gold.

Their bows will take down the young men; they will have no mercy on infants, nor will they have compassion for children.

Babylon, the jewel of kingdoms, the pride and glory of the Babylonians, will be taken down by God like Sodom and Gomorrah.

She will remain empty through all generations. Nomads will not pitch their tents --- shepherds will not pasture their flocks there.

Desert creatures will lie there, jackals will fill her houses; there the owls will dwell, and there the wild goats will skip about.

Hyenas will inhabit her strongholds, jackals her luxurious palaces. Her end is near, and her days will not linger.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 The burden of Babylon that Isaiah son of Amoz hath seen:

2 `On a high mountain lift ye up an ensign, Raise the voice to them, wave the hand, And they go in to the openings of nobles.

3 I have given charge to My sanctified ones, Also I have called My mighty ones for Mine anger, Those rejoicing at Mine excellency.'

4 A voice of a multitude in the mountains, A likeness of a numerous people, A voice of noise from the kingdoms of nations who are gathered, Jehovah of Hosts inspecting a host of battle!

5 They are coming in from a land afar off, From the end of the heavens, Jehovah and the instruments of His indignation, To destroy all the land.

6 Howl ye, for near [is] the day of Jehovah, As destruction from the Mighty it cometh.

7 Therefore, all hands do fail, And every heart of man doth melt.

8 And they have been troubled, Pains and pangs they take, As a travailing woman they are pained, A man at his friend they marvel, The appearance of flames -- their faces!

9 Lo, the day of Jehovah doth come, Fierce, with wrath, and heat of anger, To make the land become a desolation, Yea, its sinning ones He destroyeth from it.

10 For the stars of the heavens, and their constellations, Cause not their light to shine, Darkened hath been the sun in its going out, And the moon causeth not its light to come forth.

11 And I have appointed on the world evil, And on the wicked their iniquity, And have caused to cease the excellency of the proud, And the excellency of the terrible I make low.

12 I make man more rare than fine gold, And a common man than pure gold of Ophir.

13 Therefore the heavens I cause to tremble, And the earth doth shake from its place, In the wrath of Jehovah of Hosts, And in a day of the heat of his anger.

14 And it hath been, as a roe driven away, And as a flock that hath no gatherer, Each unto his people -- they turn, And each unto his land -- they flee.

15 Every one who is found is thrust through, And every one who is added falleth by sword.

16 And their sucklings are dashed to pieces before their eyes, Spoiled are their houses, and their wives lain with.

17 Lo, I am stirring up against them the Medes, Who silver esteem not, And gold -- they delight not in it.

18 And bows dash young men to pieces, And the fruit of the womb they pity not, On sons their eye hath no pity.

19 And Babylon, the beauty of kingdoms, The glory, the excellency of the Chaldeans, Hath been as overthrown by God, With Sodom and with Gomorrah.

20 She doth not sit for ever, Nor continueth unto many generations, Nor doth Arab pitch tent there, And shepherds lie not down there.

21 And Ziim have lain down there, And full have been their houses of howlings, And dwelt there have daughters of an ostrich, And goats do skip there.

22 And Aiim have responded in his forsaken habitations, And dragons in palaces of delight, And near to come [is] her time, And her days are not drawn out!

Isaiah 14:1-32

But the Lord will be merciful with Israel. They are still His selected. He will bring them back repopulating the land of Israel. And many other nationalities will arrive to cohabitate there and be loyal allies.

The nations of the world will assist them in returning, and those coming to live in their land will serve them. Those enslaving Israel will be enslaved—Israel shall lord over her foes!

At that wonderful time when the Lord gives His people rest from sorrow, fear, slavery and chains; they will sneer concerning the king of Babylon and say, “Finally you got what was coming to you!

For the Lord has crushed your unholy power and broken your evil control.”

You persecuted My people with unceasing anger and held the nations in your angry grip. Your tyranny was unrestrained.

But finally the whole earth is at peaceful and calm! The world will sing!

Even the trees of the woods—the fir trees and cedars of Lebanon—sing a joyous tune: "Since your power ended, we grow in peace.

The inhabitance of hell all crowd to meet you as you enter their abode. World leaders and might kings, long dead, are there to witness.

With one voice they cry, “Now you are as fallen as we are!”

Your strength and power are gone; they are buried with you. All the pleasant music in your palace has ended; now maggots are your sheet, worms your cover!

[Likewise] How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are trimmed to the ground—mighty though you were against the nations of the world.

For you said to yourself, “I will reach into heaven and control the angels. I will take God's place. I will preside on the Mount of Assembly far off in the north.*

I will climb to the ultimate heaven and be as God.”

But instead, you will be brought down into the lowest level of hell's pit.

Everyone there will stare at you and ask, “Can this be the one who upset the earth and realms of earth?

Can this be the one who corrupted the world and made it into a shambles, who demolished its greatest cities and had no mercy on his prisoners?”

So now the kings of the nations lie in enshrined in their tombs, but this king is thrown away as a broken branch; lying in an open grave, among other dead bodies of those slain in battle. He lies as road kill, trampled and mangled by horses’ hoofs.

No monument will be built, for you have destroyed your nation and slain your people. Your son will not succeed you as the king.

Slay the children of this unrepentant one. Do not let them rise and gain control of the land nor rebuild the world's cities.

The Lord Himself comes against him. He will remove his children and his children’s children forever from inheriting this throne.

He will make Babylon into a land of marsh birds, swamps and mires. I will sweep the land by the broom of destruction, says the Lord of the armies of heaven.

He is intent to do it! For this Is His purpose and plan.

He decided to break the Assyrian army when they are in Israel and to crush them on His mountains. His people shall no longer be their slaves.

This is His plan for the entire planet. He will achieve this by His mighty power that extends everywhere around the world.

The Lord, the God, has spoken. Who can change His intentions when He is so motivated? Whose to stop Him?

This is the message came to Isaiah the year King Ahaz died:

Don’t rejoice, Philistines, that the smiting king died. That rod is broken, yes; but his son will be a greater menace to you than his father ever was! From the snake will be born an adder, a fiery serpent to destroy you!

God will shepherd the poor among His people; they shall be nourished in His pasture! The needy shall lie down in peace. But as for the Philistines— they will be wiped out with famine and war.

Weep, Philistine cities—you are doomed. Your entire nation is doomed. For a perfectly trained army is coming down from the north against you.

What then shall the correspondents be informed of? Tell them that the Lord established Jerusalem and is determined that the poor of His people will find a security inside her walls.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 Because Jehovah loveth Jacob, And hath fixed again on Israel, And given them rest on their own land, And joined hath been the sojourner to them, And they have been admitted to the house of Jacob.

2 And peoples have taken them, And have brought them in unto their place, And the house of Israel have inherited them, On the land of Jehovah, For men-servants and for maid-servants, And they have been captors of their captors, And have ruled over their exactors.

3 And it hath come to pass, In the day of Jehovah's giving rest to thee, From thy grief, and from thy trouble, And from the sharp bondage, That hath been served upon thee,

4 That thou hast taken up this simile Concerning the king of Babylon, and said, How hath the exactor ceased,

5 Ceased hath the golden one. Broken hath Jehovah the staff of the wicked, The sceptre of rulers.

6 He who is smiting peoples in wrath, A smiting without intermission, He who is ruling in anger nations, Pursuing without restraint!

7 At rest -- quiet hath been all the earth, They have broken forth [into] singing.

8 Even firs have rejoiced over thee, Cedars of Lebanon -- [saying]: Since thou hast lain down, The hewer cometh not up against us.

9 Sheol beneath hath been troubled at thee, To meet thy coming in, It is waking up for thee Rephaim, All chiefs ones of earth, It hath raised up from their thrones All kings of nations.

10 All of them answer and say unto thee, Even thou hast become weak like us! Unto us thou hast become like!

11 Brought down to Sheol hath been thine excellency, The noise of thy psaltery, Under thee spread out hath been the worm, Yea, covering thee is the worm.

12 How hast thou fallen from the heavens, O shining one, son of the dawn! Thou hast been cut down to earth, O weakener of nations.

13 And thou saidst in thy heart: the heavens I go up, Above stars of God I raise my throne, And I sit in the mount of meeting in the sides of the north.

14 I go up above the heights of a thick cloud, I am like to the Most High.

15 Only -- unto Sheol thou art brought down, Unto the sides of the pit.

16 Thy beholders look to thee, to thee they attend, Is this the man causing the earth to tremble, Shaking kingdoms?

17 He hath made the world as a wilderness, And his cities he hath broken down, Of his bound ones he opened not the house.

18 All kings of nations -- all of them, Have lain down in honour, each in his house,

19 And -- thou hast been cast out of thy grave, As an abominable branch, raiment of the slain, Thrust through ones of the sword, Going down unto the sons of the pit, As a carcase trodden down.

20 Thou art not united with them in burial, For thy land thou hast destroyed, Thy people thou hast slain, Not named to the age is the seed of evil doers.

21 Prepare ye for his sons slaughter; Because of the iniquity of their fathers, They rise not, nor have possessed the land, Nor filled the face of the world [with] cities.

22 And I have risen up against them, (The affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts,) And have cut off, in reference to Babylon, Name and remnant, and continuator and successor, The affirmation of Jehovah.

23 And have made it for a possession of a bittern, And ponds of waters, And daubed it with the mire of destruction, The affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts!

24 Sworn hath Jehovah of Hosts, saying, `As I thought -- so hath it not been? And as I counselled -- it standeth;

25 To break Asshur in My land, And on My mountains I tread him down, And turned from off them hath his yoke, Yea, his burden from off their shoulder turneth aside.

26 This [is] the counsel that is counselled for all the earth, And this [is] the hand that is stretched out for all the nations.

27 For Jehovah of Hosts hath purposed, And who doth make void? And His hand that is stretched out, Who doth turn it back?'

28 In the year of the death of king Ahaz was this burden:

29 Rejoice not thou, Philistia, all of thee, That broken hath been the rod of thy smiter, For from the root of a serpent cometh out a viper, And its fruit [is] a flying saraph.

30 And delighted have the first-born of the poor, And the needy in confidence lie down, And I have put to death with famine thy root, And thy remnant it slayeth.

31 Howl, O gate; cry, O city, Melted art thou, Philistia, all of thee, For from the north smoke hath come, And there is none alone in his set places.

32 And what doth one answer the messengers of a nation? `That Jehovah hath founded Zion, And in it do the poor of His people trust!'

Isaiah 15:1-15

Here a prophecy concerning Moab -- the Lord gave Isaiah.

The Moab cities of Ar and Kir in Moab are destroyed in a single night.

The people of Dibon enter their temple to worship and high places to weep. The people of Moab cry over the cities of Nebo and Medeba with shaved heads and curt beards.

In the streets they wear coarse mourning clothing. On their roofs and in the market places all of them weep prostrate with their faces toward the ground.

The people of Heshbon and Elealeh cry out. Their voices are heard all the way to Jahaz. The fighting men of Moab cry out with weak hearts.

Isaiah's heart softens towards Moab. Some running away get as far as Zoar. Others flee to Eglath Shelishiyah. Others climb the hill to Luhith weeping as they go. Still others travel the road to Horonaim. They sing dirges because their town is being destroyed.

The waters at Nimrim are dried up. And so is the grass. The plants have died. Nothing green remains.

The people are attempting escape through the brook by the willows. They are carrying with them the only wealth they have stored up.

Their loud cries echo along the border of Moab. They reach as far as Eglaim. Their songs of sadness reach all the way to Beer Elim.

The waters of the city of Dimon are bloodly. But the Lord will bring even more trouble on Dimon. He will bring lions against those fleeing Moab.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 The burden of Moab. Because in a night destroyed was Ar of Moab -- It hath been cut off, Because in a night destroyed was Kir of Moab -- It hath been cut off.

2 He hath gone up to Bajith and Dibon, The high places -- to weep, On Nebo and on Medeba Moab howleth, On all its heads [is] baldness, every beard cut off.

3 In its out-places they girded on sackcloth, On its pinnacles, and in its broad places, Every one howleth -- going down with weeping.

4 And cry doth Heshbon and Elealeh, Unto Jahaz heard hath been their voice, Therefore the armed ones of Moab do shout, His life hath been grievous to him.

5 My heart [is] toward Moab, Cry do her fugitives unto Zoar, a heifer of the third [year], For -- the ascent of Luhith -- With weeping he goeth up in it, For, in the way of Horonaim, A cry of destruction they wake up.

6 For, the waters of Nimrim are desolations, For, withered hath been the hay, Finished hath been the tender grass, A green thing there hath not been.

7 Therefore the abundance he made, and their store, Unto the brook of the willows they carry.

8 For gone round hath the cry the border of Moab, Unto Eglaim [is] its howling, And to Beer-Elim [is] its howling.

9 For the waters of Dimon have been full of blood, For I set on Dimon additions, For the escaped of Moab a lion, And for the remnant of Adamah!

Isaiah 16:1-14

Send a lamb for the ruler of the land from the crags about the desert to the mountain of the daughter of Zion.

The daughters of Moab at the fords of the Arnon are like baby peeps pushed from the nest.

“Give us advice! Please help! Cover over us like night at noonday. Hide our outcasts! Don’t betray our fugitives!

Let our outcasts reside with you! Protect Moab from attacking marauders!” When extortion ends, the spoiling ceases, and those ruining the land are destroyed,

A throne will be set up through grace, and upon it, in the tent of David, will sit an honest judge, seeking justice and pursuing righteousness.

We have heard about about how very proud Moab is with their haughty arrogance, insolence and pretentious courage.

As a result, Moab will wail for Moab! They will sigh stricken by grief, for the raisin-cakes of Kir-Hareset it dreams.

For the grainfields of Heshbon and Sibmah are withering, whose red grapes overpowered rulers of nations — once reaching as far as Jazer --- trailing out into the desert. Their spreading branches even crossed the sea.

Therefore I will weep for Sibmah’s vine as I weep for Jazer.

I will water you with my tears, Heshbon and El‘aleh; because the tumult of battle is destroying your summer fruits and harvest.

Gladness and joy are removed from the fruitful fields. No kidding in the vineyards, no happy shouting, no one treading grapes in the wine presses — I have silenced the vintage-cheers.

This is why my heart throbs like a lyre for Moab and Kir-Heres.

Even when Moab is noticeably tired of worshipping on their high places and entering their temples to pray, they will have accomplished nothing.

This is the word God spoke against Moab long ago.

Now God has said, “Within three years [and no more], as if a hired worker were biding his time, the glory of Moab will be brought into contempt, despite its large population. The surviving remnant will be stingy few.”

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 Send ye a lamb [to] the ruler of the land, From Selah in the wilderness, Unto the mount of the daughter of Zion.
2 And it hath come to pass, As a wandering bird, a nest cast out, Are daughters of Moab, [at] fords of Arnon.
3 Bring ye in counsel, do judgment, Make as night thy shadow in the midst of noon, Hide outcasts, the wanderer reveal not.
4 Sojourn in thee do My outcasts, O Moab, Be a secret hiding-place to them, From the face of a destroyer, For ceased hath the extortioner, Finished hath been a destroyer, Consumed the treaders down out of the land.
5 And established in kindness is the throne, And [one] hath sat on it in truth, in the tent of David, Judging and seeking judgment, and hasting righteousness.
6 We have heard of the pride of Moab -- very proud, His pride, and his arrogance, and his wrath, Not right [are] his devices.
7 Therefore howl doth Moab for Moab, all of it doth howl, For the grape-cakes of Kir-Hareseth it meditateth, Surely they are smitten.
8 Because fields of Heshbon languish, The vine of Sibmah, Lords of nations did beat her choice vines, Unto Jazer they have come, They have wandered in a wilderness, Her plants have spread themselves, They have passed over a sea.
9 Therefore I weep with the weeping of Jazer, The vine of Sibmah, I water thee [with] my tear, O Heshbon and Elealeh, For -- for thy summer fruits, and for thy harvest, The shouting hath fallen.
10 And removed have been gladness and joy from the fruitful field, And in vineyards they sing not, nor shout, Wine in the presses treadeth not the treader, Shouting I have caused to cease.
11 Therefore my bowels for Moab as a harp do sound, And mine inward parts for Kir-Haresh.
12 And it hath come to pass, when it hath been seen, That weary hath been Moab on the high place, And he hath come unto his sanctuary to pray, And is not able.
13 This [is] the word that Jehovah hath spoken unto Moab from that time,
14 And now hath Jehovah spoken, saying, `In three years, as years of an hireling, Lightly esteemed is the honour of Moab, With all the great multitude, And the remnant [is] little, small, not mighty!'

Isaiah 17:1-14

A prophecy against Damascus: Note one day, Damascus will no longer be a city but a ruined heap.

The cities of Aroer will be empty and left to flocks, which will lie down, with no one frighten them.

The fortified city will disappear from Ephraim, and royal power from Damascus; the remnant of Aram will be as the glory of the Israelites,” proclaims the Lord Almighty.

“In that day the glory of Jacob will fade --- his body fat will waste away.

It will be as when reapers harvest the standing grain, gathering the grain in their arms— as when someone gleans heads of grain in the Valley of Rephaim.

Yet some traces will remain, as when an olive tree is beaten, leaving two or three olives on the topmost branches, four or five on the fruitful boughs,” pronounces the Lord, the God of Israel.

In that day people will look to their Creator and turn their eyes to the Holy One of Israel.

They will not look to man made altars, and they will have no regard for totem poles and the incense altars they designed.

In that day their strong cities, which they left because of the Israelites, will be like places abandoned to thickets and undergrowth. And all will be desolate.

You have forgotten God your Savior, the Rock, your fortress. Therefore, though you set out the finest plants and plant imported vines, though on the day you set them out, you nurture them, and on the morning when you plant them, you bring them to bud, yet the harvest will be as nothing in the day of disease and incurable pain.

Tribulation to the many nations that revolt— they rage like the raging sea! Tribulation to the peoples who roar— they roar like the roaring of great waters!

Although the peoples roar like the roar of surging waters, when He scolds them they rush far away, driven before the wind like chaff on the hills, like tumbleweed before a gale.

In the evening, sudden calamity! Before the morning, they've departed! This is what becomes of those who loot and plunder us.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 The burden of Damascus. Lo, Damascus is taken away from [being] a city, And it hath been a heap -- a ruin.

2 Forsaken are the cities of Aroer, For droves they are, and they have lain down, And there is none troubling.

3 And ceased hath the fortress from Ephraim, And the kingdom from Damascus, And the remnant of Aram are as the honour of the sons of Israel, The affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts!

4 And it hath come to pass, in that day, Wax poor doth the honour of Jacob, And the fatness of his flesh doth wax lean.

5 And it hath come to pass, As the gathering by the reaper of the standing corn, And his arm the ears reapeth, And it hath come to pass, As the gathering of the ears in the valley of Rephaim,

6 And left in him have been gleanings, As the compassing of an olive, Two -- three berries on the top of a branch, Four -- five on the fruitful boughs, The affirmation of Jehovah, God of Israel!

7 In that day doth man look to His Maker, Yea, his eyes to the Holy One of Israel look,

8 And he looketh not unto the altars. The work of his own hands, And that which his own fingers made He seeth not -- the shrines and the images.

9 In that day are the cities of his strength As the forsaken thing of the forest, And the branch that they have left, Because of the sons of Israel, It also hath been a desolation.

10 Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, And the rock of thy strength hast not remembered, Therefore thou plantest plants of pleasantness, And with a strange slip sowest it,

11 In the day thy plant thou causest to become great, And in the morning thy seed makest to flourish, A heap [is] the harvest in a day of overflowing, And of mortal pain.

12 Wo [to] the multitude of many peoples, As the sounding of seas they sound; And [to] the wasting of nations, As the wasting of mighty waters they are wasted.

13 Nations as the wasting of many waters are wasted, And He hath pushed against it, And it hath fled afar off, And been pursued as chaff of hills before wind, And as a rolling thing before a hurricane.

14 At even-time, lo, terror, before morning it is not, This [is] the portion of our spoilers, And the lot of our plunderers!

Isaiah 18:1-7

Distress to the land of humming wings beyond the rivers of Ethiopia;

they send ambassadors by sea, across the water in reeded boats! Go, quickly messengers, to a nation of the scattered and obstinate, to a people feared everywhere, to a strong and conquering nation, whose land is divided by rivers!

All inhabitants of the world, then living on the earth: When a banner is raised on the mountains, look. When the rams horn is blown, listen!

God told Isaiah this: “I will watch from my spot and do nothing, like heat shimmering in the sun, like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.”

For before the harvest, when the flowering ends, and the bud becomes a ripening grape, He will cut off the branches with pruning-knives, lop off the twigs and take them away.

They will all be left to mountains vultures and to the wild animals in the fields; the vultures will eat them in summer, and the wild animals of the fields during winter.

In that day tribute will be taken to the Lord of Hosts from a nation of the scattered and obstinate , from a people feared everywhere, a strong and conquering nation whose land is divided by rivers,
to the place where the name of the Lord of Hosts lives, Mount Zion

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 Ho, land shadowed [with] wings, That [is] beyond the rivers of Cush,

2 That is sending by sea ambassadors, Even with implements of reed on the face of the waters, -- Go, ye light messengers, Unto a nation drawn out and peeled, Unto a people fearful from its beginning and onwards, A nation meeting out by line, and treading down, Whose land floods have spoiled.

3 All ye inhabitants of the world, And ye dwellers of earth, At the lifting up of an ensign on hills ye look, And at the blowing of a trumpet ye hear.

4 For thus said Jehovah unto me, `I rest, and I look on My settled place, As a clear heat on an herb. As a thick cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.

5 For before harvest, when the flower is perfect, And the blossom is producing unripe fruit, Then hath [one] cut the sprigs with pruning hooks, And the branches he hath turned aside, cut down.

6 They are left together to the ravenous fowl of the mountains, And to the beast of the earth, And summered on them hath the ravenous fowl, And every beast of the earth wintereth on them.

7 At that time brought is a present to Jehovah of Hosts, A nation drawn out and peeled. Even of a people fearful from the beginning hitherto, A nation meting out by line, and treading down, Whose land floods have spoiled, Unto the place of the name of Jehovah of Hosts -- mount Zion!'

Isaiah 19:1-23

A prophetic message against Egypt: Note the Lord rides a swift cloud and is coming upon Egypt. The idols of Egypt quake before him, and the hearts of the Egyptians shrink in fear.

“I will stir up Egyptian against Egyptian, brother against brother, neighbor against neighbor, city against city, kingdom against kingdom.

The Egyptians will be discouraged, and I will make their plans fruitless. They will attempt to consult idols, spirits of the dead, mediums and wizards.

I will hand the Egyptians over to the control of a cruel master. A fierce king will rule over them,” declares the Lord Almighty.

The waters of the river will dry up, and the riverbed will be parched and dry, canals will stink, the streams of Egypt will dwindle and dry up. The reeds and rushes will wither,

Also the plants along the Nile, at the mouth of the river, every planted field along the Nile will dry up, and be no more.

Fishermen will groan and lament, all casting hooks into the Nile or who throw nets on the water will worry.

Those who work with combed flax will despair, the weavers of fine linen will lose hope.

The workers in cloth will be depressed, and all the wage earners will despair.

The officials of Zoan are fools. Even the wise counselors of Pharaoh give senseless advice.

Where are the wise men? Let them show the Pharaoh making known what the Lord Almighty has planned against Egypt.

The officials of Zoan have become fools, the leaders of Memphis are deceived, the cornerstones of her peoples have led Egypt astray.

The Lord has mixed them up; they make Egypt stagger in everything she tries, as a drunkard staggers around in his vomit.

There is nothing Egypt can do—head or tail, palm branch or reed.

At that time the Egyptians will become weaklings. They will shudder with fear at the swatting hand that the Lord Almighty raises against them.

And the land of Judah will bring terror to the Egyptians; everyone to whom Judah is mentioned will be terrified, because of what the Lord Almighty is planning against them.

In that day 5 cities in Egypt will speak the language of Canaan and swear allegiance to the Lord Almighty. One of them will be The city of destruction.

In that time there will be an altar to the Lord in the heart of Egypt, and a monument to the Lord at its border.

It will be a sign and witness to the Lord Almighty in the land of Egypt. When they cry out to the Lord because of oppressors, He will send them a savior and defender, and will rescue them.

So the Lord will reveal Himself among the Egyptians, and in that time they will acknowledge the Lord. They will worship with sacrifices and grain offerings; they will make vows to the Lord and keep them.

The Lord will strike Egypt with plague. He will strike them yet heal them. They will turn to the Lord, and He will hear their pleas and cure them.

In that time there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria. The Assyrians will go to Egypt and the Egyptians to Assyria. The Egyptians and Assyrians will worship together.

In that day Israel will be the third --- first Egypt and then Assyria, a blessing on the earth.

The Lord Almighty will bless them, saying, “Blessed be Egypt my people, Assyria my handiwork, and Israel my inheritance.”

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 The burden of Egypt. Lo, Jehovah is riding on a swift thick cloud, And He hath entered Egypt, And moved have been the idols of Egypt at His presence, And the heart of Egypt melteth in its midst.

2 And I armed Egyptians against Egyptians, And they fought, each against his brother, And each against his neighbour, City against city, kingdom against kingdom.

3 And emptied out hath been in its midst the spirit of Egypt. And its counsel I swallow up, And they have sought unto the idols, And unto the charmers, And unto those having familiar spirits, And unto the wizards.

4 And I have delivered the Egyptians Into the hand of a hard lord, And a strong king doth rule over them, An affirmation of the Lord, Jehovah of Hosts.

5 And failed have waters from the sea, And a river is wasted and dried up.

6 And they have turned away the flowings, Weak and dried up have been brooks of the bulwark, Reed and flag have withered.

7 Exposed things by the brook, by the edge of the brook, And every sown thing of the brook, hath withered, It hath been driven away, and is not.

8 And lamented have the fishers, And mourned have all casting angle into a brook, And those spreading nets on the face of the waters have languished.

9 And ashamed have been makers of fine flax, And weavers of net-works.

10 And its foundations have been smitten, All making wages [are] afflicted in soul.

11 Only, fools [are] the princes of Zoan, The counsel of the wise ones of the counsellors of Pharaoh hath become brutish. How say ye unto Pharaoh, `A son of the wise am I, a son of kings of antiquity?'

12 Where [are] they now, thy wise ones? Yea, let them tell to thee, I pray thee, And they know what Jehovah of Hosts hath counselled against Egypt!

13 Foolish have been princes of Zoan, Lifted up have been princes of Noph, And they have caused Egypt to err, The chief of her tribes.

14 Jehovah hath mingled in her midst A spirit of perverseness, And they have caused Egypt to err in all its work, As a drunkard erreth in his vomit.

15 And there is no work to Egypt, That head or tail, branch or reed, may do.

16 In that day is Egypt like women, And it hath mourned, and been afraid, Because of the waving of the hand of Jehovah of Hosts, That He is waving over it.

17 And the land of Judah hath been to Egypt for a cause of staggering, Every one who doth mention it, for himself feareth, Because of the counsel of Jehovah of Hosts, That He is counselling against it.

18 In that day there are five cities in the land of Egypt, Speaking the lip of Canaan, And swearing to Jehovah of Hosts, `The city of destruction,' is said of one.

19 In that day there is an altar to Jehovah In the midst of the land of Egypt, And a standing pillar near its border to Jehovah,

20 And it hath been for a sign and for a testimony, To Jehovah of Hosts in the land of Egypt, For they cry unto Jehovah from the face of oppressors, And He sendeth to them a saviour, Even a great one, and hath delivered them.

21 And known hath been Jehovah to Egypt, And the Egyptians have known Jehovah in that day, And done sacrifice and present, And vowed a vow to Jehovah, and completed [it].

22 And Jehovah hath smitten Egypt, smiting and healing, And they have turned back unto Jehovah, And He hath been entreated of them, And hath healed them.

23 In that day is a highway out of Egypt to Asshur, And come in have the Assyrians to Egypt, And the Egyptians into Asshur, And the Egyptians have served with the Assyrians.

24 In that day is Israel third, After Egypt, and after Asshur, A blessing in the heart of the earth.

25 In that Jehovah of Hosts did bless it, saying, `Blessed [is] My people -- Egypt, And the work of My hands -- Asshur, And Mine inheritance -- Israel!'

Isaiah 20:1-6

When the supreme commander, sent by king Sargon of Assyria, arrived at Ashdod, attacking and capturing it ----

then the Lord spoke through Amoz's son Isaiah. He said to him, “Remove the sackcloth from your body and the sandals from your feet.” And he did so, going naked and barefoot.

The Lord said, “Just as my servant Isaiah has gone stripped and barefoot 3 years, as a sign and token against Egypt and Cush,

so the king of Assyria will lead away stripped and barefoot the Egyptian captives and Cushite exiles, young and old, with bared butts—to Egypt’s shame.

Those who trusted in Cush and boasted of Egypt will be confounded and shamed.

At that time the people who live on this coast will say, ‘See what has happened to those we relied on, those we ran to for help and deliverance from the king of Assyria! How can we escape?’”

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 In the year of the coming in of Tartan to Ashdod, when Sargon king of Asshur sendeth him, and he fighteth against Ashdod, and captureth it,

2 at that time spake Jehovah by the hand of Isaiah son of Amoz, saying, `Go, and thou hast loosed the sackcloth from off thy loins, and thy sandal thou dost draw from off thy foot,' and he doth so, going naked and barefoot.

3 And Jehovah saith, `As My servant Isaiah hath gone naked and barefoot three years, a sign and a wonder for Egypt and for Cush,

4 so doth the king of Asshur lead the captivity of Egypt, and the removal of Cush, young and old, naked and barefoot, with seat uncovered -- the nakedness of Egypt;

5 and they have been affrighted and ashamed of Cush their confidence, and of Egypt their beauty,

6 and the inhabitant of this isle hath said in that day -- Lo, thus [is] our trust, Whither we have fled for help, To be delivered from the king of Asshur, And how do we escape -- we?'
