Well technically the Jaredites are a fictitious group in a fictitious story, but yes they were mostly gone by the time the story has Lehi's group arriving. Remember the mulekites left after Lehi and found the last Jaredite alive. I suppose you could interpret them as the same nation.
gdemetz wrote:Fictitious? Maybe you should check out some of the Book of Mormon evidences sites.
I doubt there is any claimed evidence for the Book of Mormon I am not aware of. Perhaps you could bring up what you think is evidence, or are you going to say your last post you provided sources.
You can have Heckle, Jeckle, and the other bird check out www.BookofMormonEvidence.org. They list some there. If you read a lot of that, it becomes apparent the someone who hasn't finished grade three couldn't have come up with such an obviously fantastic elaborate hoax of that magnitude!

What piece of evidence on that site do you find the most compelling?

I am happy to see he actually used a link. We are seeing a little progress. So far I haven't seen anything I am not already aware of. It's interesting that he is going with the Meldrumites. Most apologists will disagree with most of his claims for many of the same reasons I do. The site doesn't even bring up that I can tell at this point things most other apologists would bring up like chiasmus(although some apologists argue against it being evidence of the Book of Mormon being an ancient text). It does bring up Haplogroup X, but it doesn't really give what we know about it since that would show it is not from some Israelite group migrating here 600 BC.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haplogroup_X_%28mtDNA%29

Maybe you could provide one piece you think is compelling and we can go from there. by the way Joseph was smart and didn't stop learning. One of his parents was a teacher, and he was doing glass looking at a young age.
gdemetz wrote:Do you guys know anyone that has not finished grade three that can produce a similar work in such a short time?!
Probably many who could. Joseph could read and write and was in his twenties at the time. He was already skilled in conning people with his rock in a hat. If you read up on it you will see that it takes certain skills that would be needed to make up something like the Book of Mormon. Also remember that the Book of Mormon was a grammatical mess before it was edited for printing. This also does not bring up whether Joseph had another involved like Oliver Cowdery, who was very involved at these times and he was the principle scribe.
The story of the Book of Mormon was not complex and the framework of the story existed before Joseph. I assume you think the time frame needs to be a few months, but this is incorrect. He would have many years to prepare since he was making certain claims years before. There is plenty of evidence that shows the Book of Mormon is a 19th century production, so let us know if you are interested in exploring all sides.

I have explored all sides, Themis, and your side does not make much sense to me! You obviously believe that it was some great conspiracy between Joseph and at least eleven other witnesses who certainly could have found something better to do! All of the three witnesses left the church and one never came back after he was persecuted by church members, but he was adamant in his testimony until the day he died!
