God was making the Israelites participate in their deliverance. The markings represented the cross of Christ. It was a sign of things to come.

Placekicker, the main reason for that was to symbolize and point to the atoning sacrifice of the Lamb of God, however, unfortunately, despite that pointing as well as many other signs, many have hardened their hearts and depended on what they supposed was their great knowledge and wisdom.

The cross of Christ? Now that is stretching things way out of proportion. (Read it again, the 2 side posts! and lintel. How does that represent the cross?)

22 and ye have taken a bunch of hyssop, and have dipped [it] in the blood which [is] in the basin, and have struck [it] on the lintel, and on the two side-posts, from the blood which [is] in the basin, and ye, ye go not out each from the opening of his house till morning.

23 `And Jehovah hath passed on to smite the Egyptians, and hath seen the blood on the lintel, and on the two side-posts, and Jehovah hath passed over the opening, and doth not permit the destruction to come into your houses to smite.

:rolleyes:

Sometimes, what The Bible 'says' and what Nipper 'hears' aren't the same thing...

The blood of the lamb was representative of the future blood of the sacrificial "Lamb of God." That is not so difficult to grasp, is it?

Stretching the imagination? Maybe so to those who have limited imagination. The stains of blood on the the side-posts are Christ's pierced hands. The blood upon the lintel --- the blooded brow of Christ imposed by his crown of thornes. Any blood which dripped down upon the threshold --- the pierced feet of Christ.

I can imagine no other part of man's anatomy upon which the man gazes more upon, nor contemplates more often.

Exodus 13:1-22 The Lord says to Moses, to dedicate to Him every firstborn among the Israelites. The first offspring to be born, of both humans and animals, belongs to the Lord God. Moses tells the people, that here is a day to remember forever—the day the Hebrews left Egypt, the place of their slavery. Now the Lord brings them out by the power of his mighty hand. (Remember, eat no food containing yeast.) Today in the early spring, in the month of Abib (Note: first month of the ancient Hebrew calendar corresponding to Nisan), the Hebrews have been set free. They are to celebrate this event in this month each year after the Lord brings them into the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Hivites, and Jebusites. (God swore to their ancestors that he would give them this land—a land flowing with milk and honey.) For seven days the bread they eat must be made without yeast. On the seventh day, celebrate a feast to the Lord. Eat bread without yeast during those seven days. In fact, there must be no yeast bread or any yeast at all found within the borders of their land during this time. On the seventh day they must explain to their children, that they are celebrating what the Lord did for them when they left Egypt. This annual festival will be a visible sign, like a mark branded on their hand or forehead. This should remind them always to recite this teaching of the Lord: that with a strong hand, the Lord rescued the Hebrews from Egypt. So observe the decree of this festival at the appointed time each year. This is what they must do when the Lord fulfills the promise he swore to them and their ancestors. When God gives them the land where the Canaanites now live, the must present all firstborn sons and firstborn male animals to the Lord, for they belong to him. A firstborn donkey may be bought back from the Lord by presenting a lamb or young goat in its place. But if not bought back, the neck is to be broken neck. However, they must buy back every firstborn son. In the future, when the children will ask for the meaning. They are to be told that with the power of his mighty hand, the Lord brought them out of Egypt, a place of slavery. Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let them go, so the Lord killed all the firstborn males throughout the land of Egypt, both people and animals. That is the reason for the sacrifice all the firstborn males to the Lord—except that the firstborn sons will always be bought back. This ceremony will be like as the former, like a mark on the hand or forehead. It is a reminder that the power of the Lord’s mighty hand brought them out of Egypt. When Pharaoh finally let the people go, God did not lead them along the main road that runs through Philistine territory, even though that was the shortest route to the Promised Land. God said, that if the people are faced with a battle, they might change their minds and return to Egypt. So God led them in a roundabout way through the wilderness toward the Red Sea. Thus the Israelites left Egypt like an army ready for battle. Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for Joseph had made the sons of Israel swear to do this. The Israelites left Succoth and camped at Etham on the edge of the wilderness. The Lord went ahead of them, guiding them during the day with a pillar of cloud, and he provided light at night with a pillar of fire. This allowed them to travel by day or by night. The Lord did not remove the pillar of cloud or pillar of fire from its place in front of the people.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

2 `Sanctify to Me every first-born, opening any womb among the sons of Israel, among man and among beast; it [is] Mine.'

3 And Moses saith unto the people, `Remember this day [in] which ye have gone out from Egypt, from the house of servants, for by strength of hand hath Jehovah brought you out from this, and any thing fermented is not eaten;

4 To-day ye are going out, in the month of Abib.

5 `And it hath been, when Jehovah bringeth thee in unto the land of the Canaanite, and of the Hittite, and of the Amorite, and of the Hivite, and of the Jebusite, which He hath sworn to thy fathers to give to thee, a land flowing with milk and honey, that thou hast done this service in this month.

6 `Seven days thou dost eat unleavened things, and in the seventh day [is] a feast to Jehovah;

7 unleavened things are eaten the seven days, and any thing fermented is not seen with thee; yea, leaven is not seen with thee in all thy border.

8 `And thou hast declared to thy son in that day, saying, `[It is] because of what Jehovah did to me, in my going out from Egypt,

9 and it hath been to thee for a sign on thy hand, and for a memorial between thine eyes, so that the law of Jehovah is in thy mouth, for by a strong hand hath Jehovah brought thee out from Egypt;

10 and thou hast kept this statute at its appointed season from days to days.

11 `And it hath been, when Jehovah bringeth thee in unto the land of the Canaanite, as He hath sworn to thee and to thy fathers, and hath given it to thee,

12 that thou hast caused every one opening a womb to pass over to Jehovah, and every firstling -- the increase of beasts which thou hast: the males [are] Jehovah's.

13 `And every firstling of an ass thou dost ransom with a lamb, and if thou dost not ransom [it], then thou hast beheaded it: and every first-born of man among thy sons thou dost ransom.

14 `And it hath been, when thy son asketh thee hereafter, saying, What [is] this? that thou hast said unto him, By strength of hand hath Jehovah brought us out from Egypt, from a house of servants;

15 yea, it cometh to pass, when Pharaoh hath been pained to send us away, that Jehovah doth slay every first-born in the land of Egypt, from the first-born of man even unto the first-born of beast; therefore I am sacrificing to Jehovah all opening a womb who [are] males, and every first-born of my sons I ransom;

16 and it hath been for a token on thy hand, and for frontlets between thine eyes, for by strength of hand hath Jehovah brought us out of Egypt.'

17 And it cometh to pass in Pharaoh's sending the people away, that God hath not led them the way of the land of the Philistines, for it [is] near; for God said, `Lest the people repent in their seeing war, and have turned back towards Egypt;'

18 and God turneth round the people the way of the wilderness of the Red Sea, and by fifties have the sons of Israel gone up from the land of Egypt.

19 And Moses taketh the bones of Joseph with him, for he certainly caused the sons of Israel to swear, saying, `God doth certainly inspect you, and ye have brought up my bones from this with you.'

20 And they journey from Succoth, and encamp in Etham at the extremity of the wilderness,

21 and Jehovah is going before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them in the way, and by night in a pillar of fire, to give light to them, to go by day and by night;

22 He removeth not the pillar of the cloud by day, and the pillar of the fire by night, [from] before the people.
