1 Thessalonians 3:1-13

So when we could no longer stand it, we agreed to be left in Athens alone

and sent Timothy, our brother and God’s fellow worker for the Good Message of the Messiah, to stabilize and encourage you in your trust;

so that none of you would let these persecutions become upsetting. For you realize that such things are bound to happen to us;

even when we were with you, we kept reminding you in advance that we were about to be persecuted; and indeed it has happened, as you know.

That's the reason why, after I could take it no longer, I sent to investigate your trust. I was afraid that somehow the Tempter had tempted you, and our hard work had been for nothing.

But now Timothy has come to us from you, bringing great news about your trust and love, and telling us that you remember us well and are always wishing to see us, just as we long to see you.

Because of this, brethren, in spite of all our trouble and distress, we were comforted regarding you because of your trust;

so that now we are alive; since you continue to stand fast, united with the Lord.

Indeed, how can we thank God enough for you or express to our God all the joy we feel regarding you?

Continually we pray as hard as we can that we will be able to see you all in person and surmount whatever issues there may be regarding your trust.

May God our Father and our Lord Jesus direct our path to you.

And as for you, may the Lord make you grow and overflow in love toward each other, indeed, toward everyone, just as we do toward you;

so that He may give you the inner strength to be blameless, by reason of your holiness, when you stand before God our Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all His angels.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 Wherefore no longer forbearing, we thought good to be left in Athens alone,

2 and did send Timotheus -- our brother, and a ministrant of God, and our fellow-workman in the good news of the Christ -- to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith,

3 that no one be moved in these tribulations, for yourselves have known that for this we are set,

4 for even when we were with you, we said to you beforehand, that we are about to suffer tribulation, as also it did come to pass, and ye have known [it];

5 because of this also, I, no longer forbearing, did send to know your faith, lest he who is tempting did tempt you, and in vain might be our labour.

6 And now Timotheus having come unto us from you, and having declared good news to us of your faith and love, and that ye have a good remembrance of us always, desiring much to see us, as we also [to see] you,

7 because of this we were comforted, brethren, over you, in all our tribulation and necessity, through your faith,

8 because now we live, if ye may stand fast in the Lord;

9 for what thanks are we able to recompense to God for you, for all the joy with which we do joy because of you in the presence of our God?

10 night and day exceedingly beseeching, that we might see your face, and perfect the things lacking in your faith.

11 And our God and Father Himself, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you,

12 and you the Lord cause to increase and to abound in the love to one another, and to all, even as we also to you,

13 to the establishing your hearts blameless in sanctification before our God and Father, in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints.

1 Thessalonians 4:1-18

So, brethren, just as you learned from us how you had to live to make God happy, and just as you are so living presently, we ask you --- in fact, united with the Lord Jesus, we implore you to keep doing so to a growing extent.

For you know what instructions we presented to you through the authority of the Lord Jesus.

What God wants is that you be holy, stay away from sexual immorality,

that each of you know how to manage one's sexual impulses in a holy and honorable manner,

without giving in to lustful desires, like the pagans who don’t know God.

No one should wrong his brother in this matter or take advantage of him, because the Lord punishes all who do such things — as we have explained to you before at length.

For God did not call us to live a debased life but a holy one.

Therefore, whoever rejects this teaching is rejecting not a man but God, in fact, the One who gives you His Holy Spirit.

Concerning love for the brethren we do not need to inform you, for you have been taught by God to love each other.

And you do love all the brethren throughout Macedonia. But we urge you, brethren, to be more diligent.

Also, make it your ambition to live quietly, to mind your own business and to earn your living with your own hands — just as we told you.

Then your daily life will gain the respect of outsiders, and you will not be dependent on others.

Now, brethren, we want you to know the truth about those who have departed; otherwise, you might become depressed the way other people

do who are hopeless. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we also believe that in the same way God, through Jesus, will take with Him those who have died.

When we say this, we base it on the Lord’s own word: we who remain alive when the Lord comes will certainly not take precedence over those who have died.

For the Lord Himself will come down from heaven with an awaking shout, with a call from one of the ruling angels, and with God’s horn; those who died united with the Messiah will be the first to rise;

then we who remain still alive will be raptured with them through the clouds to meet the Lord in the air; and thus we always will remain with the Lord.

So encourage each other with what has been said.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 As to the rest, then, brethren, we request you, and call upon you in the Lord Jesus, as ye did receive from us how it behoveth you to walk and to please God, that ye may abound the more,

2 for ye have known what commands we gave you through the Lord Jesus,

3 for this is the will of God -- your sanctification; that ye abstain from the whoredom,

4 that each of you know his own vessel to possess in sanctification and honour,

5 not in the affection of desire, as also the nations that were not knowing God,

6 that no one go beyond and defraud in the matter his brother, because an avenger [is] the Lord of all these, as also we spake before to you and testified,

7 for God did not call us on uncleanness, but in sanctification;

8 he, therefore, who is despising -- doth not despise man, but God, who also did give His Holy Spirit to us.

9 And concerning the brotherly love, ye have no need of [my] writing to you, for ye yourselves are God-taught to love one another,

10 for ye do it also to all the brethren who [are] in all Macedonia; and we call upon you, brethren, to abound still more,

11 and to study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we did command you,

12 that ye may walk becomingly unto those without, and may have lack of nothing.

13 And I do not wish you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, that ye may not sorrow, as also the rest who have not hope,

14 for if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, so also God those asleep through Jesus he will bring with him,

15 for this to you we say in the word of the Lord, that we who are living -- who do remain over to the presence of the Lord -- may not precede those asleep,

16 because the Lord himself, in a shout, in the voice of a chief-messenger, and in the Trump of God, shall come down from heaven, and the dead in Christ shall rise first,

17 then we who are living, who are remaining over, together with them shall be caught away in clouds to meet the Lord in air, and so always with the Lord we shall be;

18 so, then, comfort ye one another in these words.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-28

However, you have no need to have anything written to you, brethren, regarding the times and dates when this will all occur;

because you already know that the Day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

When people are saying, “Everything is so fine and dandy/peachy keen,” then destruction will suddenly come upon them, the way labor pains happen to a pregnant woman, and there is no way they will escape.

But you, brethren, are not in the dark, so that the Day should take catch you like a thief;

for you are all people who belong to the light, who exist in the daylight. We don’t belong to the night or to darkness,

so let’s not be sleeping, like the everyone else is; on the contrary, let us stay alert and sober.

People who sleep, sleep at night; and people who get drunk, get inebriated at night.

But since we belong to the day, let us stay sober, putting on trust and love as a breastplate and the hope of being delivered as a helmet.

For God has not intended that we should experience His fury, but that we should gain deliverance through our Lord Jesus the Messiah,

who died on our behalf so that whether we are alive or dead, we may live along with him.

So encourage each other, and boost each other up, as you'er presently doing.

We ask you, brethren, to respect those who are working hard among you, those who are guiding you in the Lord and confronting you in order to help you change.

Treat them with the highest regard and love because of the work they are doing. Live at peace among yourselves;

but we urge you, brothers, to confront those who are lazy, your aim being to help them change, encourage the timid, assist the weak, and have patience with everyone.

See that no one repays evil for evil; quite the opposite, always try to do good for each other, in fact , towards everybody.

Always be joyful.

Pray regularly.

In everything give thanks, for this is what God desires from you who are united with Jesus the Messiah.

Don’t be a wet blanket,

don’t despise inspired messages.

But test everything — hold onto what is good,

but keep away from every form of evil.

May the God of Peace make you completely holy — may your entire spirit, soul and body be held blameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus the Messiah.

The one calling you is faithful, and he will do it.

Brethren, continue praying for us.

Greet all the brethren with holy regard.

I charge you in the Lord to have this letter read to all brethren.

The grace of our Lord Jesus the Messiah be with you.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 And concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need of my writing to you,

2 for yourselves have known thoroughly that the day of the Lord as a thief in the night doth so come,

3 for when they may say, Peace and surety, then sudden destruction doth stand by them, as the travail [doth] her who is with child, and they shall not escape;

4 and ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day may catch you as a thief;

5 all ye are sons of light, and sons of day; we are not of night, nor of darkness,

6 so, then, we may not sleep as also the others, but watch and be sober,

7 for those sleeping, by night do sleep, and those making themselves drunk, by night are drunken,

8 and we, being of the day -- let us be sober, putting on a breastplate of faith and love, and an helmet -- a hope of salvation,

9 because God did not appoint us to anger, but to the acquiring of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

10 who did die for us, that whether we wake -- whether we sleep -- together with him we may live;

11 wherefore, comfort ye one another, and build ye up, one the one, as also ye do.

12 And we ask you, brethren, to know those labouring among you, and leading you in the Lord, and admonishing you,

13 and to esteem them very abundantly in love, because of their work; be at peace among yourselves;

14 and we exhort you, brethren, admonish the disorderly, comfort the feeble-minded, support the infirm, be patient unto all;

15 see no one evil for evil may render to any one, but always that which is good pursue ye, both to one another and to all;

16 always rejoice ye;

17 continually pray ye;

18 in every thing give thanks, for this [is] the will of God in Christ Jesus in regard to you.

19 The Spirit quench not;

20 prophesyings despise not;

21 all things prove; that which is good hold fast;

22 from all appearance of evil abstain ye;

23 and the God of the peace Himself sanctify you wholly, and may your whole spirit, and soul, and body, be preserved unblameably in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ;

24 stedfast is He who is calling you, who also will do [it].

25 Brethren, pray for us;

26 salute all the brethren in an holy kiss;

27 I charge you [by] the Lord, that the letter be read to all the holy brethren;

28 the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [is] with you! Amen.

2 Thessalonians 1:1-12

From: Paul, Silas and Timothy

To: The Messianic Community of the Thessalonians, united with God our Father and the Lord Jesus the Messiah:

Grace to you and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus the Messiah.

We continuously thank God for you, brethren, as is appropriate; because your trust continues to mature greater, and the love you have for each another continues to increase.

As a result, we boast concerning you in God's congregations because of your perseverance and trust through all the persecutions and troubles you deal with.

This is obvious evidence that God’s judgment is just; and as a result, you will be labeled worthy in God's kingdom for which you are suffering.

For it is justice for God to pay trouble with trouble to those who are troubling you,

and to provide rest along with us to you who are being troubled, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels

in a fiery flame. Then He will punish those who don’t know God, that is, those who won't regard the Good Message of our Lord Jesus and obey it.

They will suffer the just penalty of eternal destruction, far away from the face of the Lord and the glory of His power.

On that Day, when He arrives to be glorified by His holy people and admired by all who have trusted, you will be among them, because you trusted our witness to you.

With this in view, we continually pray for you that our God may make you worthy of His calling and may fulfill by His power every good purpose and every action stemming from your trust.

In this way, the name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified in you, and you in him, in accordance with the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus the Messiah.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, to the assembly of Thessalonians in God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ:

2 Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ!

3 We ought to give thanks to God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because increase greatly doth your faith, and abound doth the love of each one of you all, to one another;

4 so that we ourselves do glory in you in the assemblies of God, for your endurance and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye bear;

5 a token of the righteous judgment of God, for your being counted worthy of the reign of God, for which also ye suffer,

6 since [it is] a righteous thing with God to give back to those troubling you -- trouble,

7 and to you who are troubled -- rest with us in the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven, with messengers of his power,

8 in flaming fire, giving vengeance to those not knowing God, and to those not obeying the good news of our Lord Jesus Christ;

9 who shall suffer justice -- destruction age-during -- from the face of the Lord, and from the glory of his strength,

10 when He may come to be glorified in his saints, and to be wondered at in all those believing -- because our testimony was believed among you -- in that day;

11 for which also we do pray always for you, that our God may count you worthy of the calling, and may fulfill all the good pleasure of goodness, and the work of the faith in power,

12 that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Thessalonians 2:1-17

But in connection with the coming of our Lord Jesus the Messiah and our gathering together to meet Him, we ask you, brethren,

not to be easily disturbed in your thinking or upset because of a spirit or a spoken message or some letter supposedly from us claiming that the Day of the Lord has already arrived.

Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way.

For that Day will not come until after the Apostasy has come and the individual who separates himself from the Law has been exposed (the one destined for doom).

He will be against everything that people call a god or make an object of worship; he will exalt himself above them all, so that he will sit in the Temple of God and proclaim that he alone is God.

Don’t you remember that when I was still among you, I used to tell you these things?

And now you know what is restraining, so that he may be revealed in his own time.

For already this separating from Torah is at work secretly, but it will be covert only until he who is holding back is out of the way. [referencing the rapture]

Then the one who personifies the separation from Law will be revealed, the one whom the Lord Jesus will slay with the breath of his mouth and destroy by His glorious arrivial.

When this man who ignores Law comes, the Adversary will give him the power to work all kinds of fake miracles, signs and wonders.

Satan will enable him to deceive, in all kinds of deviant ways, those who are headed for destruction because they would not receive the love of the truth that could have saved them.

This is why God is causing them to go astray, so that they will believe the Lie.

The result will be that all who have not believed the truth, but have taken their pleasure in deviant lifestyles, will be condemned.

But we must continue thanking God for you always, Brethren whom the Lord loves, because God chose you as the initial harvest for deliverance by giving you the holiness originating with the Spirit and the faithfulness that originated in the truth.

He called you to this through our Good Message, so that you could have the glory of our Lord Jesus the Messiah.

So, brethren, stick together; and hold to the values we taught you, whether ours were oral or written in a letter.

And may our Lord Jesus the Messiah Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and with His grace given us eternal comfort and a good hope,

comfort your hearts and strengthen you in every good word and deed.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 And we ask you, brethren, in regard to the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, and of our gathering together unto him,

2 that ye be not quickly shaken in mind, nor be troubled, neither through spirit, neither through word, neither through letters as through us, as that the day of Christ hath arrived;

3 let not any one deceive you in any manner, because -- if the falling away may not come first, and the man of sin be revealed -- the son of the destruction,

4 who is opposing and is raising himself up above all called God or worshipped, so that he in the sanctuary of God as God hath sat down, shewing himself off that he is God -- [the day doth not come].

5 Do ye not remember that, being yet with you, these things I said to you?

6 and now, what is keeping down ye have known, for his being revealed in his own time,

7 for the secret of the lawlessness doth already work, only he who is keeping down now [will hinder] -- till he may be out of the way,

8 and then shall be revealed the Lawless One, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the manifestation of his presence,

9 [him,] whose presence is according to the working of the Adversary, in all power, and signs, and lying wonders,

10 and in all deceitfulness of the unrighteousness in those perishing, because the love of the truth they did not receive for their being saved,

11 and because of this shall God send to them a working of delusion, for their believing the lie,

12 that they may be judged -- all who did not believe the truth, but were well pleased in the unrighteousness.

13 And we -- we ought to give thanks to God always for you, brethren, beloved by the Lord, that God did choose you from the beginning to salvation, in sanctification of the Spirit, and belief of the truth,

14 to which He did call you through our good news, to the acquiring of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ;

15 so, then, brethren, stand ye fast, and hold the deliverances that ye were taught, whether through word, whether through our letter;

16 and may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and our God and Father, who did love us, and did give comfort age-during, and good hope in grace,

17 comfort your hearts, and establish you in every good word and work.

God decides if you should be saved, not you. God knows if you should be saved, not you. Unless you think that you are God. You must rely on grace, not what "seemeth right" to you. :wink:

If you think that you have the powers of God then you are surely damned. :biggrin:
