Above is the Family Search result.
It obviously depends on which Joseph Smith record you look at - there are numerous different ones for him! In fact there are over 25 different and separate records for the Joseph Smith who was born on December 23rd 1805 in Sharon, Vermont.
That said, the sealing keys weren't restored until 1836 so I wonder what kind of marriage they entered into...

That has always been my question and concern, Drifting. The apologetic on this is, I believe, that Joseph received the revelation prior to 1836, but it was not recorded until then.
Can someone who is into apologetics confirm this? BC? Where are you??

Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Nauvoo, Illinois, recorded 12 July 1843, relating to the new and everlasting covenant, including the eternity of the marriage covenant, and also the plurality of wives (see History of the Church, 5:501–7). Although the revelation was recorded in 1843, it is evident from the historical records that the doctrines and principles involved in this revelation had been known by the Prophet since 1831.
This is the heading for D&C 132. Instead of apologetics I'd like to see the 'historical records' that show 'that the doctrine and principles involved in this revelation had been known by the Prophet since 1831'.
Liz, notice the specific wording of this heading states that the revelation occurred in 1843. Not in 1831. It is only saying that Joseph knew the principles back in 1831.
So! Somebody, Anybody, let's see those specific historical records please...

Don Bradley wrote a book, and has done some extensive research on this. Maybe we can persuade him to help us here. I will have to look up some other threads he has authored and see if I can find his book. That would probably help us. I don't know what my time is like today, but I will try and get back with this. This subject has always greatly interested and troubled me at the same time.

Don can only help us if he can point us in the direction of the actual historical documents that are referenced in the heading of D&C 132.

I believe that is what his research involved. He spent quite a bit of time on it. Let me see what I can find.

However, admittedly, one problem was that even though Joseph Smith supported the law of the land, as indicated in the Articles of Faith, he felt that these spiritual marriages were above and beyond the law, and therefore he felt no obligation to fulfill the normal civil procedures that the law required.
Yet you cannot provide any evidence that these marriages were only for the next life, even though we have some evidence they were viewed as marriages like any other. BY even had one wife who had a husband. He had children with her. One of Joseph married wives is said to have told only one child she was the daughter of Joseph. Reality is that these marriages were not considered for just the next life, but that seems to hard for some to accept, yet we get attacked for accepting the evidence.
There are women who testified in a court of law that they had had carnal intercourse (sex) with Joseph Smith. They did this during the Temple Lot Case when the Brighamite branch was trying to prove that Joseph is the one that started polygamy.
Was Brigham Young lying? Were these women lying? Were other saints who claim that Joseph spent the night with their sister or with them all lying? Why would these faithful saints tell such lies about the Prophet Joseph whom they loved and revered?
