P.s. here is what God tells us himself

4 And the Lord said unto me, by the Urim and Thummim, that Kolob was after the manner of the Lord, according to its times and seasons in the revolutions thereof; that one revolution was a day unto the Lord, after his manner of reckoning, it being one thousand years according to the time appointed unto that whereon thou standest. This is the reckoning of the Lord’s time, according to the reckoning of Kolob.
Abraham 3

So, you are clear with the distinction between rotation and revolution, especially with regards to all things astronomical, correct?
And what about the notion of how the moon always has the same face towards the earth?
start with these 2 ingredients, mix in a little theory of relativity, and then let simmer until you actually have a fundamental understanding of what is being "taught".

please, keep up with your own posts, and my responses to them.

Subgenius, which of the following statements are not taught as literally true by the Church?...

as for the official church position on such matters i concur with the following and challenge anyone to provide an official church position to the contrary.
The scriptures do not say how old the earth is, and the Church has taken no official stand on this question. Nor does the Church consider it to be a central issue for salvation.

p.s. please, provide what you term "official church chronology" on this matter.

I've underlined the pertinent and explicit part of the scripture.

If you look in your LDS scriptures, in the Bible Dictionary part under 'chronology' I think you'll find the bit where it explcitlty paces Adam at 4,000 bc.

subgenius,

The real question is; are you familiar with the distinction? You have not yet even come close to demonstrating that you are.

In the case of the Earth's moon, one (orbital) revolution requires the same time as does to one rotation about its axis. This is known as a phase locked orbit, the physics of which are well understood, and which is common among moons and their primaries in this solar system.

Now that we have that sorted out, please explain why this is even relevant and how "mixing in a little relativity" helps your case.

You don't even know whether Kolob is supposed to be a planet or a star (Joseph Smith clearly did not know the difference and the Lord apparently did not see fit to enlighten him). If Kolob is supposed to be a planet, then you have no clue what star it orbits. If Kolob is supposed to be a star, then it would not make a very good location for the throne of an anthropomorphic God of flesh and bone such as Elohim. For that matter, neither would the center of a massive black hole.

Subgenius, please remember that, according to the prophet Joseph FIelding Smith, and in no uncertain terms, the Mormon God is constrained by, and operates in accordance with, the laws of nature. The laws of nature preclude information (such as any physical matter, light, promptings of the spirit, etc.) escaping from beyond the event horizon of a black hole. If the Mormon God were in such a location, he would be too small to see with the naked eye and unable to ever move back across the event horizon.

Sorry, but the needle on my bovine scatology detector just pegged in the red (as it often does when you decide to expound on your various versions of pseudoscience).

Based on what I have seen from his replies...... I think it is safe to say, by subgenius's definition the LDS church has no official doctrines.

Only in your fantasy world. How many times have you run away from threads after saying things like absence of evidence is not evidence of absence when people easily refute such incorrect statements?

Matches #3 It's a truism that can't be refuted.

So in review, the title of this thread is not true according to the evidences I presented.

Bcspace, when was Adam on the earth according to LDS Bible chronology?
How long is one of the Lords days according to LDS scripture?

You're forgetting that "day" in Genesis 1-2 is not necessarily a 24 hour period or a thousand year period, but is just as likely to be an epoch of time. You also need to ask yourself how literal is the description? We already know from official doctrine that Eve being taken from Adam's rib is figurative.

How do either of these questions relate to the actual age of the earth or how would the possible answers set up any conflicts with the state doctrine on the age of the earth; that the Church has no position?

I don't think I'm the only one to notice that you avoided answering both the questions...

...but you are the only one that did not notice that your reply is often given when the answer received is not what one wants.
And for the record, Bcspace answered quite effectively and concisely. The only criticism is that it was, perhaps, not conveyed at a level appropriate for your discernment.

Bump to see if subgenius has the minerals to answer directly these questions (unlike bcspace)......
